Yes, the 1st Gen iPhone will get the 2.0 firmware.
Aside from some slight aesthetic changes... 3G, GPS and Battery life are the major differences.

/dammit, that's another 10 days.

I still am curious about the actual battery life. engineer estimates are not necessarily real world usage stats. 3G + WiFi + media = dead

I'm with you, I am getting both. I wish I can mold the two together to get the perfect device.

1. The huge screen of the iPhone
2. The awesome email and IM capabilities of the Blackberry
3. Incredible 3rd party apps the iPhone will soon have
4. Blackberry security and encryption

Supposedly the radio and speaker are better with 3G. We'll have to see.

Well, I guess thats your opinion. Judging by discussions on the internet, there are plenty of people comparing the two and trying to decide which to purchase.

You are absolutely right. One of the reasons I'm moving to the Bold vs upgrading my current iPhone is that there is virtually no difference between the two iPhone models. 3G is great, but finding WiFi is pretty easy. Not to mention EDGE is good enough where I am for stuff like Google Maps, weather, scores, that kind of stuff. I was disappointed that the functionality I kept waiting for - copy/paste, MMS, etc - doesn't appear to be forthcoming. Not to mention there is absolutely no performance boost for the new model. Their email is pretty awful on top of everything. I'm sure MobileMe will be fine, but you can't use it with other email addresses.

For all the folks jumping on the iPhone bandwagon for the first time with the 3G model, they're going to love it. For those of us who have had it for a year, it's a $200 upgrade that's pretty unnecessary. We're going to get all the 2.0 goodies same as everyone else.

Only because the release is so close together and both are on ATT had the iphone or the bold either one been released months apart there wouldnt be near the discussion.

I visit 6 different phone forums daily not all are dedicated BB forums and this is the only one where the iphone is brought up so much. There are possibly one or maybe two at the most threads about it. Here there are many daily.

I honestly dont think there is a device for me other than the BlackBerry. I tried a dozen other smartphones and NONE can handle 15000 emails a month. It would take me many many times longer to type on the iPhone than the BB. I did a speed test and i came out at 82 wpm, with 1 error on the BB device (solved by spell check). Its also a reason i will never have the Thunder. Just not practical.

I feel the same way Sith. I have tried to leave the BB scene several times and I just cant give it up.

I crank out about 75 words per minute with zero errors on the BB I can do about 50 on the iphone with alot of errors. I have hated touch screens since the days of the treos. I will not be purchasing a thunder either.

Man I wish people on this board would stop talking about, and comparing BB's to, the iPhone.

Could be worse. They could be talking about Win Mobile phones.

I reported that. Don't say BGR is "wrong" to much here, they hate that.
