6Gb? Ahhh....now I get it! No wonder Rogers called me tried to get me to lock in my Gb plan for $60!

Just got off the phone with Rogers who indicated "definitely not tomorrow" and "probably sometime in August." He said that Rogers will be doing a big marketing thing like they did for the Iphone and that has not even launched yet so will probably be some time before it gets released.

if you look again, those ray^^ pictures are from the tennis promotional thing not a retail store ... i think pokey is saying retail stores still don't have promotional stuff ready/onsite, etc.

ahhhh, makes sense.

Still, I am humored that both ray and pokey are both speaking with Rogers employees.
You think it might be same person just sitting back and laughing!

Just spoke to my firm's contact at Rogers. Best he could do on the release date for the Bold is "first week in August".

More importantly, though, he told me that the $30/month data plan for 6GB would not be available for anyone on a BES, like me. This is going to come as a very unpleasant surprise for lots of corporate users.

A Rogers shop just gave me the heads up that they are expecting actual stock on August 5th.

In HowardForums (Rogers dealers forum plus the Rogers general forum) -- this is the Internet's most popular public discussion forum for cellphone store discussions, cellphone plans, and Rogers dealers -- there was a mention that they traditionally got pricing information and materials (advertising, stock) a few days to more than a week in advance, and that seems to have not happened yet. A well-known Rogers dealer with thousands of posts, by username treatz, confirms this information.

So, if I had a choice between betting money on July 25th or August 5th (even that is debatable), I'd bet on August 5th (or beyond.) Some dealers even think it's still coming out July 25th (not being fully informed by higher-ups at Rogers) as it has already been discussed internally within Rogers, but it has never been announced nor materials have yet been sent out, so this internal date is likely being missed. I think August 5th is a real date, but unfortunately also a 'tentative' one, given the need to wave the green flag on the Bold firmware release, before the floodgates open... (The OS has had many issues, and definitely contributed to delay). Lots of grapevine rumors say RIM is putting resources towards the touchscreen model, ever since the iPhone 3G announcement, making sure it comes out well before Xmas season this year on Verizon... Which may be contributing to a little bit of a Bold delay (delay beyond RIM/Rogers internally hoped-for launch dates). Lots of fact mixed with lots of rumors, indeed.

Here's my opinion:
The best we can indeed hope for July 25th is that July 25th is the date that the official announcement finally arrives (the July 25th press release announcing an August or September Bold availability date).

In the meantime, I'm enjoying my new Rogers $30/6gig plan on my old unlocked AT&T Curve 8310. Big improvement from the Rogers $60/25meg plan and the $100/100meg plan, considering AT&T USA and Verizon USA both introduced a 5 gigabyte soft-cap on their Unlimited data plans.

For Rogers consumer subscribers (non-BES) who haven't upgraded their old BlackBerry Plans, the promotional 6gig/$30 BlackBerry plancode is BB6GBIS3 expiring August 31 (though it's likely to be extended, given probable Bold delay). Make sure you get transferred to the DATA department (call 866-931-DATA during business hours, or call 611 from the Rogers BlackBerry) and get it added to the pre-existing voice plan without interfering with the contract on the voice plan. Some Rogers employees will try to get you into a voice contract or renew your voice contract, when you try to add this new BlackBerry plan (I still am currently on no-contract voice, even though BB6GBIS3 requires a 3-year contract with a $100 early cancellation fee) The good news is that this also works with tethering, tethering is allowed, and you're allowed to swap SIM cards between your BlackBerry and iPhone or other phone (it works). Cannot activate in an Aircard, but SIM card works in it too (with no extra charges).

Thanks,
Mark Rejhon
