Default Rogers Release date for 9000 Bold - 06-30-2008, 03:17 AM

ATTENTION! Read all about it!

New CONFIRMED launch date for the BlackBerry Bold 9000 from Rogers. Today I was talking with my contact, who works at Rogers Head Quarters in Toronto, and we had a nice discussion about the release of the device and why it hasn’t been released yet and to whom it will be released first. At first the rumor was a launch date for June 25th (via internal RIM document), but the device was apparently pushed back by Rogers as there were issues with the 3G radio. My contact (who will remain a secret) confirmed the use of the device by numerous people around the office. He also confirmed that Rogers will be the first to launch the device in all of North America! He later was able to tell me that the device is slated to be launched July 25th. That’s right people, confirmation from an internal source at Rogers that it will be available to all on July 25, 2008! Way before AT&Ts rumored launch time frame of August.

I was also able to confirm that all of Rogers BlackBerry devices with WiFi will not be crippled as previously rumored. You will be able to browse the internet using the WiFi. But only the 8120 and 8820 will be enabled for UMA.

When I found out this information, I then contact my other numerous contacts within Rogers and they all confirmed the July 25th launch. So start saving, and get ready for the biggest device to date! And don’t forget to mark your calendars! I know I already have!

It's amazing how people doubt the reputable members of this forum. Great info Cory!! I can't wait for the 25th!

What would they gain by disabling the UMA? That's my main reason to get the device. Rogers signal is terrible in my area, but UMA would have made it bearable for the rest of my year and a half contract! If that part is true I'll be less then impressed.

the reason why UMA is not in the bold is because the chip set is not build for it... the chip sets used for UMA only come in EDGE and UMA... there is no chip set build yet that have 3G and UMA... its just not technologically available right now

I'd be more impressed with this news if it hadn't already been reported in several other BlackBerry/gadget sites first, several days if not weeks ago.

The July 25th launch for Rogers? I read BBCool, CrackBerry, Boy Genius, Engagdet, Gizmodo, Pinstack etc. Virtually all the speculation/rumors/supposed source-within-the-company focused on July 25th days prior to the June 25th release flaming out. I don't recall the specific posts because I read too damn much of this stuff during the day to narrow it down.

I'm not trying to flame anyone or step on any toes, but I don't see anything new or revealing in Cory's post. I assumed the July 25th was the correct date a while ago because so many people with "sources" were pointing to it. I appreciate anyone providing info, so please don't take this as me trying to tear down Cory, a poster I've grown to appreciate.

Looked to me like you didn't try too hard not to.

My point is there's no need for the post above. if you already know about the news/post, move on. Leave the moderating to us.

I wasn't trying to moderate. I didn't request that the thread be closed or deleted or set on fire. I offered a comment that the information didn't seem to be new, and I think I was pretty civil.

Would that an adult who moderates this board show the same courtesy instead of trying to bait me into some silly message board kerfluffle that will no doubt end with you suspending/banning/damning me to Disney World.

I am sorry and my hat off to Cory.

How is this different that other rumors. Officially announced? Not!

Sorry Cory, your source is likely correct but until Rogers says so, it is rumor.

I would have to agree Greg.. But given the launch parties all through July. I highly doubt they would do all that, then tell everyone: "We're Announcing Release of the Bold in August.." Just positive speculation I guess.

Odd, I can't find those specific posts either. Speculation, as in "maybe" but nothing with "supposed" confirmation from someone with Rogers.

Of course, I might not have looked too hard.

YOu're right. Cory is the first person to announce that an undisclosed source has "confirmed" the device's release date. This has not happened anywhere else on the internet. I'm happy his previous "confirmation" of a June 25th release has been revised as a "rumored" release date, lest anyone be confused by all the confirming that's gone on this morning.

While we're on the subject can someone expand on UMA. Does the cell phone company have to support or can it be done with any wi-fe regardless of the provider?

Search provided no answer at least I could find.

I appreciate any rumors, leaks, gossip, bad jokes, well pretty much anything that helps pass the time while we wait. At least as each new date approaches and then ultimately passes a new date appears to give new hope.

I too read a lot of tech blogs, BB, WinMobile, Palm (the last two for humor) and Apple. I did recall reading something about 7/25, but it was rumored and it sounds like this is more definitive and that is positive. I'm new to the BB world still learning my way around but gadgets are my passion.

tvguru's post about UMA makes me quite happy. UMA would be one of the biggest reasons I purchase the Bold. It's just my opinion (or personal need) but UMA will give me far more benefit than 3G will.

My inside sources say Sept - of course my sources are CSRs that don't know much ;)

When the 25th comes, since I am HUP'ng do I have to order over the phone or can I do that in a store?
