Default Just saw the Bold live and in color. Coming in the Fall.

Please Login to Remove!

So I am sitting at a local High School here in Georgia getting ready to watch the fireworks when I happen to glance over at a guy sitting in the group next to us.

He has an iPhone and is taking a picture of his daughter.

Thought nothing of it.

Then I see him put that up and break out another phone.

It was a BB Bold for sure. No mistaking it.

So when he got up and headed to a booth where they were selling something, I kind of went up and started talking to him.

High up AT&T official who said the Bold would come in the Fall.

The iPhone he had was the new 3G one, so he had both devices. He said the iPhone is FAST, but that he could just not get used to the keyboard of it.

He said the Bold's keyboard is much easier to type on than the Curve.

It looks like a VERY nice device. Since it was about time for the fireworks to start, I didn't ask him for a demo or anything, but from what I saw, it looks as advertised.

Anyway, that is my lame story about the Bold from today.

Did you see any heat waves rising from the device? Was it plugged into a charger?

Just kidding, thanks for talking to him.

So if its ready and they don't release it in the summer then RIM will be called out on delays since they stated no delays and August.

That's why I think RIM wants Rogers and T-Mobile Germany to ship on time.

I do not think RIM is behind the delay. I think AT&T pushed it back so it would not be in too much competition with the iPhone.

Don't know if I'm convinced of that. People that want the iphone are going to buy the iphone and people that want the Bold are going to buy the Bold. They really are still 2 different user segments. Both will do fine on their own.

I think you're spot on. The Bold really isn't competition for the iPhone. Most of the consumers who don't use a phone for business aren't really comparison shopping for smartphones, they just want the cool new Apple product. People that even know of the Bold's existence are probably gadget geeks like us and have already decided on one or the other by now anyway.

i saw one last night at a wedding i went to...the screen is amazing as everyone has already commented....

but the speed of the screen transitions was instantaneous...incredible and it looked a lot smaller and thinner than i thought...i guess the camera really does add 10lbs to everything

now i want one even more

I do agree that the BB vs Apple debate has grown way out of control and proportion. Yes they are both SmartPhones and pretty much do exactly the same things and yes the Apple products are always given to be a huge success, except that boom box thing, yeah that failed.

So there will clearly be crossover customers that will buy both, convert from one to the other and so on. Honestly does it really matter all that much? As a loyal MAC user I will be buying the BB Bold, I just prefer it that way and its no big deal. So I hope the whole my phone is bigger than your phone debate can come to a quite and agreeable end.

Hmmm....not so sure. I'm a small business user that needs ms exchange support and now that the iPhone has it I'm strongly considering buying the 3G. But I do love blackberry. For me it comes down to how decent the Blackberry media player is because I use mine at the gym and on the road.

I'm on the fence, titling towards remaining a RIM customer for the 7th straight year, but I'll test both. I bet there are 100,000s if not 1,000,000s of people like me with similar perspectives.

Let it be known that neither device is going to change your life or mine for an instant. The joy that you feel the moment you load it up and get accustomed to it will be quickly supplanted by the suffering you feel shortly after you've mastered it and are comfronted with the reality that you won't see another advancement or upgrade for many months if not years to come.

Our consumer culture builds in perpetual suffering and opposes the more sustainable and life enriching concepts of living a simple and modest life.

I love using my curve at the gym and running on the road with a wireless stereo bluetooth headset. It is my understanding that the new iPhone will not have stereo bluetooth. How can this be??

Apparently it doesn't have cut/copy/paste/ either so that doesn't surprise me much.

It's hard enough to keep track of one device, and going through the anguish of waylaying it every once in a while. But two devices?

Oh dear.
