Default Blackberry Bold Official Introduction - 07-27-2008, 04:10 PM

YouTube - BlackBerry Bold Official Introduction

It looks like someone is ready to launch this thing immently. The OS looks a lot nicer and faster than what we've seen with the beta.

Hope you all enjoy this clip.

My apologies. I must have missed it.

What was the nature of the controversy?

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 9000 4.6.0.67)

The Bold will be launched within 2 weeks from the best info we have. If Rogers holds to what they said internally it will be this coming week. If not Tmo Germany should launch the week after. www.blackberrynews.com has the dates.

Ya, that's cool. I'm in no rush- enjoy the anticipation, don't let it consume you with negative emotions

I just thought the vid was a little different than what we've seen previously because it seems to show a better quality display and resolution.

ooo.. The bb bold looks insane. They really need "cool" devices out now to compete against IPhone, Instinct, etc

I just looked at the vid again. While I agree that it's probably a vid file playing on the device, it still manages to capture the high resolution and speed of it.

I think this will be a pretty decent advancement over the curve in terms of space and memory storage for songs and photos. That's really the only big benefit that I can see from it. I think the 3G doesn't over a whole lot of real progress.

I really wish there was a legit release date for AT&T. If the mid-August rumors had held up, I was contemplating taking my 3G iPhone back and going phone less for a couple of weeks just to get the Bold. If it's been pushed back to maybe September 1st or later, no way I can do that.

I guess three years of development just wasn't enough.

While it is definitely an advancement, I don't see any great benefit to it.

Default there are plenty of advantages to it... - 07-27-2008, 05:55 PM

I for one, am an avid jivetalk user and currently on my curve, if i spent more than a couple of minutes on a phonecall, it signs you out of jivetalk. that won't be the case on the bold.

And if you are a huge business person, where you email and talk on the same BB then when you are on a call you don't have to worry about not getting emails... Instead they come in right away and you can reply to them right away as well.

And also, you could be on a call and need to look something up on the net fast! While on the call open the browser and find that info 3 times as fast then compaired to EDGE all will on the call and not having to say I'll call you back so I can find that info.

There are HUGE benefits to having 3g with simultanious data and voice

I love the screen, I love the OS and the 3G, but I'm sorry, I hate the looks of this phone. Reminds me too much of the 8800 series. Too big and I never liked the look of those either.

You know, I don't mind the size that much. I wouldn't prefer a brick, but I do like the feeling of something when it's a bit substantive. That's why I think the iPhone has the most perfect form factor out there. Small enough for jean pockets, but it *feels* like a solid piece of equipment.

I wonder if AT&T could be waiting until the 30 day grace period is up for those that purchased the iPhone 3G so they can't bring them back to exchange for the Bold. I know there are several people on this board (including myself) that have purchased the iPhone and would consider exchanging for the Bold after a closer comparison.
I doubt that's the reason, but it's a thought.

I don't think thats such a crazy thought. Imagine all the returns from people that just don't get what they need out of the iPhone. Its a great phone for the right person. Me, I love my Curve and now with the 8GB card I have all the media I need for now. C'mon BOLD, I cant wait!!!!!

Really good point now I will be able to use Mobile Admin while talking to the person on the phone, if I have to do a password reset etc.

I am in fact the 'huge business person' that you speak of and I don't really see it as a big deal at all. A benefit yes, a major factor worth upgrading for, no.

For me the big advantage is greater media storage. That is a big benefit to me.

Is it really not a RIM issue when it appears that all the carriers are delaying the device?

The new August issue of Inc. magazine has the Bold featured in a product review and lists its price at "About $300 to $400; wireless.att.com"

I assume thats good news...

I don't believe that for a second. Despite what we tell ourselves, the Bold is not a direct competitor for the iPhone. The majority of people who have purchased iPhones weren't debating between that device and a BlackBerry, they simply wanted the iPhone.

You're talking about such a small percentage of the iPhone consumer base. You're talking about people like us, who obsess over these devices and follow their every development. Most consumers don't even know these things exist until they see the advertising, or some feature on the evening news "Steve Jobs announced the new iPhone today!" The perception of BlackBerry is still that of a business device. It's not going to appeal to a majority of the folks who are inclined towards Apple's product.
