Hope you can help me out.

I am about to buy a Bold from Germany (t-mobile) and to have it shipped to UAE. There i want to use it with initially BIS from Etisalat and later on maybe on BES.

Can you guys tell me whether BB service of Etisalat is working on a unlocked t-mobile Bold from Germany.

Your help is highly appreciated.

It should. Etisalat is a GSM carrier as I recall, and there should be no reason why the Bold won't work on that network.

I am a newbie, so forgive me my stupid questions. I read somewhere that you might be able to make calls but register on the BB-service might be a problem.

You need to sign up on Etisalat for the BlackBerry Data Plan.

If that is the case, I will make an order for a Bold today. I am really excited about this phone. Looks great and does the job. Unlike the iPhone which is great too, but without a dataplan you are paying too much.

Hi. just saw your comments about the BB Bold from T Mobile. I just bought one in Germany as well and I am trying to register it with Etisalat over their WebSite but it gives me an error message saying that I can not register it with this service provider.
Can someone help me ? I was told it should work to register it but now I am stuck at this point.
I would appreciate any help please.

@schleips: Have you already booked the BlackBerry service from Etisalat to your contract? Does your BB display show EDGE, GPRS or 3GBB or is it stuck at edge, gprs or 3g?

I have used Blackberry service with Etisalat - it works well. You have to ensure that the Blackberry plan is provisioned on your phone.

Just register the service from the Bold. Send sms to 1010 with the text "r bis185" for the Domestic Unlimited.

That is what i did and it worked for me already a few weeks.

Hi Barryberry. It seems you bought your Bold from Germany and have been using it with no problem with Etisalat for over a month, right? Is there anything that does not work as it would in case it were bought from Etisalat? What about the preloaded maps? Do you have the UAE map or is it only Germany?

I am thinking to buy a provider independent handset from somewhere abroad as well. Hong Kong would be handy as I go there for a couple of days soon, but those may be locked to the providers. I like the design of Bold better than that of Curve. I was told today in Jumbo that it is unlikely that Bold debuts in the UAE before mid-November.

Dear I'm using Etisalat provider and its working fine. I got the BOLD from Rogers canada and just add the PIN at Etisalat web site and started getting mails in 5minutes.

Everything works like normal. Maps from where you are. I have also updated the firmware a few times.

So i have not noticed anything that indicates that the bold is provider limited. I have bought a bold for my wife also, which is on its way.

It will be a lame question, but when Estebulla says "make sure that it is provisioned on your phone", does it mean I have to check the handset for some pre-set allowance before I buy, or does it simply mean that I have to text to Etisalat once I put my sim in?

As far as i know, you only have to make sure that the Bold is unlocked.

I bought my from Germany because there they are sold unlocked. Other then that i have put the sim i already used for normal use into the bold. After i had sent the text message, the service was operational after a few hours.

So, just an unlocked Bold would do.
