Question Bold battery lasts only one day?

Please Login to Remove!

What is wrong with my Blackberry Bold battery? Even though when I first got it I charged it for like ..8-9 hrs, it only lasts one single day and I only sent zero sms, zero emails and zero calls!! (because I use another cell at the time). Oh and the wifi is off.

3G eats batteries.
The Curse of 3G. Kills the iPhone battery also.

What???????

Anyone else having this????

From responses from this forum, the initial problems I see are:

3g/2g switching dropping calls
Slow web browser

We adding battery life to the list?

Mine ate about half battery through the first full day. That was with normal email / phone usage but limited browsing. It definitley eats more than my curve but that's fine. A full day works for me.

Have a colleague at work that has an iPhone & he was charging just after lunchtime - that was during a training session so he couldn't have been using it much either.

A friend has the Bold and he says the battery has never failed to last him a full day even when it was new and he could not keep his hands off of it. As many Bolds that are out there, we are not hearing that everyone is out of power by 2pm. I suspect that this maybe should not be added to the list yet.

I'm getting more than a day out of mine and at the moment I am using it ALL the time for calls, SMS, browsing, playing music and playing games - in fact for pretty much everything it does. I think I would get a couple of days out the battery of normal useage (guess I'll find out when I can put it down <g>).

First of all, not everyone is getting dropped calls. I've yet to have one & the quality & crispness of the calls is amazing. It may because the Sim card wasn't changed - apparently a new Sim card is required for the 3G network(from what I'm told).

Since I don't own an iPhone, I can't compare but so far, it's a lot faster than my curve. I'm not on the browser all day, my main use is email & phone.

So I wouldn't go starting a list quite yet. So far, this gadget blows away my curve, pearl, 8700 & 7100 - I've had most of them. The screen rez is incredible.

Just popped in an 8GB card so I can load anything I want from my PC.

I find that the battery life is great....I've been playing with the phone for the last 5 hours and the battery is still at 65%. I live in the basement and the 3G is constantly on as well. I also changed to a new SIM card.

Not one single call dropped yet *knock on wood*, and all my friends say the call quality great

As in the past. in these forums, take the best and the worst comments and toss them in the crapper. Somewhere in the middle is the truth!

Seems there are some that are trying to make the Bold sound as bad as the iPhone! LOL!

This list on the Bold is short, does anyone remember the first few days when the iPhone came out?

I'm still gettin one when at&t finally drops it! Like Greg said, somewhere in the middle is where the truth can be found. Depends on where ya live, how much ya use it, etc!
So we'll see!

If I configure Options->Network->2G to force it to EDGE only, the BlackBerry Bold battery lasts a HELL lot longer.

If you need to stretch your BlackBerry Bold longer, do this. You can always go into turbo 3G mode optionally at other times, such as when tethering or surfing graphical websites, or sending large file attachments (i.e. file attachments that are a megabyte plus, such as video files)

3G can be enabled/disabled manually... Makes a BIG difference on the battery life if you cannot wait for Javelin! (which is going to have a smaller battery, so probably won't last as long as a EDGE-forced BlackBerry Bold)

Could you set a profile for 'No 3G"? That would be cool. Program the left side key to go to profiles. Boom, instant battery saver!

I am very happy to have a device make it 18 hours. My 8120 on a light day ends at about 45%. A normal day about 20%.

I have had my Bold since the AM of Thursday, 21st. Used the initial charge supplied until middle of afternoon. Charged it overnight Thursday - Friday, have been suing it since, 3G seems to work fine, not a new SIM card existing form previous 8800 BB, have done some browsing, sent a few emails, received a few emails, played a game or two for awhile and my BB is on 24/7 per se. Tonight it still has just under 50 % charge available. While I will grant you that my 8800 lasted longer, probably a day or two more but hey, thatís what car charges and ac chargers are made for. My only issue is the seemingly scratch prone screen, which I am taking steps to cure as well. Personally, I am very pleased with my new acquisition.

I have 3G switched off unless I need it (like in Japan) and I get a full day of medium use. But even on 2G only it is not even close to the battery life I got with my Curve. The Bold is nice but it does not live up to the hype everyone has created.

i think RIM shafted battery life on os4.5 to prepare us for the bold.

on os4.2 my 8820 would go a 3 or 4 hours longer than what it did after i installed 4.5
on my bold, the battery lasts till about the same point now as my 8820 with 4.5.

I don't agree. I had my blackberry curve in storage for 2 months, and then when I pulled it out the battery life was horrible. I just actually just needed to recalibrate it since it was in storage for the 2 months I had the iphone. I get the same use. Last night I went out, and I use my phone A LOT... and I got home at 6:45 AMish, and still had about 25%. hehe. I'm running 4.5.0.55, believe me, on some earlier builds it was HORRIBLE. HORRIIIBLE! I'd have to charge it 2 times a day, but now I can do it every 30 hours But I do it every night since it's more convenient to just let it attach to my cable coming wonderfully out of the socket with the name BB on it over night.
