Default Bold Vibrate - very weak

Please Login to Remove!

Hi Everyone,

Is it just me, or does the bold not vibrate as well as previous models? I've used 7290 -> 8700 -> 8800 -> 8310 and now just got a bold and notice that the I can't really feel the vibration when I have it hitched onto my belt. Has anyone noticed the same thing? Is there any way of increasing the intensity?

I'm with you on this. My Pearl vibrated a lot more noticeably. I'd be lying if I said I didn't mind it. I wish this one was more powerful.

Can it be the case? Maybe it is muffling the vibrations.

It may have some soft material between the case and the clip. If so, the vibrations won't hit your belt.

I have to keep my phone on vibrate while working and I keep it on my belt in the provided pouch. I am constantly checking my phone and noticing missed e-mails etc as I cannot feel the vibration. Is there any fix for this type of thing? This alone is enough to make me have to switch back to my 8310.

Wirelessly posted

Pokey,

Exactly the same reason as to why I posted this! I hope a software upgrade will fix this, or at least give you the option to adjust the intensity of the vibrate.
Fortunately I can position the holster onto my belt in such a way where it attracts more attention, but it is still a pain to miss some of this stuff. The 8700 has the best vibrate function, but the bold is the best blackberry, I hope that RIM can address this because it is a pitty to have such a stupid issue be the cause of so much frustration with this amazing device.

What I want is a way to make it vibrate and ring as any other cell phone in the world!
(I know there's an app... but I'm not willing to pay, after paying US$550 for the device)

Bold is an awesome piece of hardware so far, but as everyone stated in this thread, the vibrate is VERY weak. All my blackberries have vibrate+ring for level 1 messages when on call (like I'm sure MANY IT people do). Prior to the bold, I knew a message was coming before the ring even went off, not with the bold, I have no idea it's even vibrating when on my desk or nightstand. Fortunately the sound is pretty loud, otherwise this would force me to return the device as I would miss critical pages :\

Hopefully this CAN be fixed with a software upgrade, as I'm sure MANY IT professionals (and others) would find it highly beneficial. I just hope it's not hardware limited (i.e.: it's already vibrating at max). At this point, I don't feel confident in purchasing my guys who will be on call due to this limitation.

Feeling the phone vibrate seems to be relative to positioning, as others have mentioned.

Now, I do not have a Bold. However, on my 8800, I have missed all sorts of calls/msgs/etc. by not feeling the BB vibrate on my belt; so in that sense, it's not so much different.

YET... this morning, for example, I left my BB on the kitchen table and went up two floors to bathroom to take a shower, and after getting out of the shower and drying my hair, etc., I was like "What the heck is that NOISE?!". It was my BB vibrating on the kitchen table.

Well, we don't need a lesson in physics to know the difference between vibration conduction of a phone in a holster on a belt vs. a phone on a kitchen table on a hardwood floor going through the walls, etc., right? Right, neither do I but it doesn't help our problem with not feeling the vibes of the phone on your belt holster.

One work-around, which I have tried, is to use a ringtone sound (not a song) clip of a low buzz. The bass tone of that ringtone is actually "feelable" but only barely audible since the frequency is fairly low. I suppose it'd be better if I could tweak the sound but I haven't tried using sound utilites and such.

The better work-around for me is to use Blackberry Alerts. I have it set to re-notify me every minute, with Vibrate and Tone (Notifier Cricket, set on low, it's fairly unobtrusive) and so even if I miss the initial notifications, I am bound to feel/hear the next few notifications over the next few minutes.

I think everyone understands the impact of vibration with regards to the phones position

I think the primary concern here is that even on a table, without a case, you can barely hear it vibrate. Which compared to my previous blackberries, is very different.

As for the Blackberry Alerts, can you set filters for which messages get repeated if not checked? I get email 24/7, and I only want alerts which are critical to get repeated if not checked. Currently I simply set them to level 1 alerts, so that they go off differently at night compared to regular email.

Would you mind supplying the forum with said high bass tone? hehe. I think many would appreciate it, I think..
Sincerely,
a soon-to-be-bold user

post your own thread, and dont hijack another.

second, i have no problem with the vibrate on my bold. i dont have it in my pocket or on a belt clip, infact its rarely out of the charging pod.

i just put it on vibrate through the profile and put it on the desk, and its quite loud.
so im at a loss at to why so many people have a problem with it.

im currently on the Bold, a test unit from my telco...
a agreed with all of you.. bold vibration is weak.. my own blackberry is 8707v. i never use the ringtone.. the only ringtone that i know is VIBRATION.. thats why, when i switched to bold, i tend to switched back to 8707v (although i missed the os 4.6 very much... sobb.. sobb :( ) i think RIM must address this asap..

Glad I'm not the only 1 who noticed this. This is my 1st BB and I'm shocked. I mean my VZW LG EnV would fall off the table if I had it on vibrate!!

My 8700g had the strongest vibrate function, the curve wasn't as good, but was much better than the Bold.
