Default WiFi Free Calling? - 08-25-2008, 10:10 AM

Since the bold has integrated WiFi, is it possible to make free calls? EG, is there a Skype client or something similar?

yes and no.... Skype doesnt allow you to make calls viz the internet yet (as far as i know) and i dont know of a single other app out there that would let you... and the BOLD is not UMA ready so you cannot connect to the router to make calls like you could with the 8120 or 8820

UMA basically allows you to make voice calls over a wifi network, saving, for example, on roaming charges if you are abroad but able to connect to a wifi network.

That is by far the best feature of UMA for me. I also think John Clark will agree.

Iskoot runs skype, so yes you can run skype. It's only good for international calls though imo.

Does iSkoot use wifi though? Last time I asked about iSkoot I was told it's dial-around. I was told there is no current way to use skype with wifi.

Has anyone tried fring?
The website video shows how you can use Skype without a SIM card.
