I've had my bold for a few days now and starting from last night, the thinking icon in the middle of the screen keeps blinking as if it's looking for something or loading something.

It's really annoying and I've restarted the phone a few times (battery pull and alt caps del), but it just starts up again once the phone is on.

Anyone else have this problem? Is there a solution to it? I've made sure I don't have any open applications as well, so I don't know what the hell it's thinking for.

Do you have a microSD memory card in the device? If so, try taking it out and see if it still does it.

And if you were to type "constant scanning" into the search feature (in red above) you would find the likely answer to this.

tried that... the thinking icon is still going like crazy... and plus it's really draining the battery. a few other people have the same problem. hope someone comes up with the solution!!

You did? When I type "constant scanning" into the search bar above I get only about 4 or 5 threads. And one of them is this one:

sorry! i meant that i tried rebooting the phone...

went to your response for constant scanning and did all those steps and there's still the little thinking icon that keeps popping up. i'm not sure what the hell it's doing but it's draining my battery like there's no tomorrow! argh

You haven't had enough time to have performed the steps mentioned in the link.

i actually just reformatted the media card. i skipped the steps of putting the data on my computer because i already have that data there (and there wasn't very much, just a few songs).

i then rebooted the phone and the thinking icon still keeps popping up.

Give it five minutes to settle down after the reboot.

What is your filefree listed at options > Status?

file free in status says 22389246 bytes...

What apps are running in the background (ALT + escape)?

just BB messenger, home, browser...

and the icon is still flashing! ugh

actually, how do i reboot the whole system (like, just wipe everything out and restart the whole thing)?

i have just gotten through the exact same issue

i was running .147 OS with apps - facebook, windows live messenger, yahoo messenger, google maps and nav4all

i found out that the scanning problem was a result of the nav4all application not being up to scratch with the 4.6 OS.

i first deleted all five apps and did a hard reset to find the problem had stopped, then just used a process of elimination to narrow it down to the app that was causing the glitch

it wont necessarily be the nav4all app that is causing your problem but i am assuming it will be one you have recently installed that isnt completely compatible that will be giving you the dramas so you just have to narrow it down to which one it is

I had this problem after upgraded to .150. Was driving me crazy. I can't find the thread at the moment. But I did see an answer here. I went into Options/Memory and tuned Media Card Support OFF & Mass Storage Support OFF. I rebooted. Then turned both back on. BAM!!! The constant scanning went away.

We don't seem to have a 9000 FAQ at the moment on the wiki. But several of these tips would really be good to have there.
