Default Bold - Vista and Desktop Manager v4.6 - 09-23-2008, 12:36 PM

I'm new to Blackberry and just got a Bold (which I love) problem is syncing to outlook? Installed desktop manager, set up the sync and all worked fine... until the second time I tried to do it... the sync seems to get mid way then stalls and I get a vista messege saying 'Blackberry Desktop Manager has stopped working' A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify me if a solution is available.

I get the option of a close program button.

The bold freezes with the monitor and blackberry symbols on it until I un-plug the usb.

Id be grateful for any advice...

Lastly is there a blackberry software support number???

Thanks in advance

ummm is your Outlook the full version or the trial version? if its the full version then i would say start off by uninstalling the DM 4.6 and then go here:
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...DFA11&step =4
to get the latest build...

Downloaded from the link you suggested and it appears to be the same version that I was already using. Despite un-installing the first version and re-installing the downloaded software same thing happens as before?????

When you uninstalled and re-installed, did it (Desktop Manager) ask you to setup up the syncing options again?

I've run into a similar issue where I speculate that something on the device or on the desktop got corrupted. I then disabled the syncing piece that was "bombing" (i.e. Contacts or Tasks). I would then re-sync and it allowed for the syncing cycle to complete. I would then go back into the Desktop Manager syncing options and re-enable the troublemaker.

The one time I've had to do this, it seemed to clear out whatever problematic data was causing it to choke.

I, of course, did a battery pull prior to going through this exercise.

Worth a shot I would think.

Cheers

Cheers,
Mason

I agree with the previous post.
You have to determine where the sync is getting hung.

It is possible that if there are entries in the Outlook address book that have blanks in the name field or are not setup with information in the name and title fields and there have been instances where the sync will bomb and stop.

I would investigate your address book for any type of address that does not sort correctly. Start by sorting by name field and change from first name to last name to sort again and look for entries at the top and bottom of the sort. The sort will usually show an address with a name issue or some type of problem. This is one way to start to troubleshoot the sync not completing.

Good luck and let us know how your doing...

H.

The Biz...

Sometimes backing up, clearing a specific db and then restoring can also give you happy times. And, like you just found, there can be different results depending upon what DM your running...
I am glad you found a combination that works...

I am having the same problem. Running:
DM 4.6 latest build.
Outlook 2007 full.
Vista Business 32 Bit.
BB Bold with latest OS 4.6.162
BIS subscribtion

Mine always hangs when syncing the calender, tryed clearing DB and sync; it work for the first time and then the DM will hang when syncing the calender again.

tried everything, including re-installing everything still the same problem. i face the exact same issue on my Curve (only when I installed the 4.6 OS on the curve). I even tried reducing the period that is synced (2 weeks the same as all appointments).

I assume it is something related with the OS 4.6, and the mutli- calenders for each of your account connfigured.

I hope someone will figure out how to fix this very soon as it drives my crazy. need my calender working.

Good evening,
I had the same problem as you described...it was finally resolved today with the help of Rogers tech support.
I went into Desktop Manager in Backup and Restore | Advanced. In the device database window I scrolled to Calendar All and highlighted that entry and then pressed Clear. This removed the database related to the Calendar on the device only. I then did a new synchronization and the calendar entries were re-entered from Outlook with no problem. After that, I added more entries to Outlook and synchronized again; no problems. It appears as though the database on the Blackberry related to the Calendar got corrupted and caused the failure at that specific location.
I hope this helps.

RIM really need to sort this. DM 4.6 I suspect does more database integrity checking than earlier versions. But when it trips up the reporting of what went wrong is dreadful. And there are no reliable database repair or recovery procedeures either. There needs to be a utility equivalent to Outlook's 'scanpst' to recover/fix up what's possible from a corrupt BB backup file...

RIM still OEM the sync technology from Intellisync (part of Nokia) I think.

This is similar to what we used to have to do when we had an older version of Lotus as our mail server. The address book would get corrupted and to fix it you would do a backup, clear and re-import and everything would start to work again. The back must re-index the data and once that is done, the re-import using the sync brings back the corrected data. It usually was associated with a table error within the address book db. Almost the same as what your doing here as you clearing the calendar just brings back the calendar entries off the Exchange Server. It almost seems to be something going on with the data on the BB device calendar that is damaging the calendar data??
