I had the same problem, to solve this issuue, go into your browser option and clear all 3 caches and then it will back up fine.

In my case, the problem is usually caused by de Browser Cache DB, so erasing this DB all works fine.

Good luck

Try erasing your Browser Cache Database using the Advanced Backup utility.

Dang... I thought I had corrupted something when I tried to do an upgrade to .150. Ok.. So cleared the Browser cacher from OPTIONS... No luck... Then tried clearing it from The Advanced Backup Utility. Still "Unknown Error"

Tried going into advanced backup, highlighting everything in the right hand window and sending it over to the left hand window. Fails after keystore manager. Soooooo....

Next up I highlight everything except Keystore Manager... and Location Based Services which is the database right after keystore Manager....

BAM!... Everything copies. Highlight JUST keystore manager and IT copies... Try it with just Location Based Services..... Unknown Error. Now we are getting somewhere.

I do remember seeing something about Location BAsed Services being disabled by an updated IT policy. But not sure if that is valid since the Bold isn't suppose to be a supported platform on the company BES.... yet...

Of course... those are set wirelessly... and I can't do anything with them. I guess I could just do the advanced backup and restore and skip that file....

Curiouser and Curiouser.... ????

Me too! Cleared the cache but that did not help. Doing the step-by-step I found that it was my "Profiles" that was causing the error.

Anyone with any idea how to solve this?

I am getting the same error but I get it in the middle of backing up my calendar. I think I know how I did it. I was deleting some duplicate entries of recurring events (holidays). Then my BB stopped communicating with the BES server and so I had to delete my calendar and then resync with the BES. All was well until I tried to do a backup. Obviously it's corrupt but I don't want to delete all of my calendar entries. My BB Admin already ran a fix on my mail file. Any ideas out there?

Default It worked!! - 12-03-2008, 09:07 PM

Thank you so much!!!! I tried your suggestion and using advance backup, was able to see that my profiles file was the the culprit!!!

I just went back and created a new custom ring profile!!!

Turns out my problem wasn't in the calendar after all. I found that if I did a selective backup and did not include "Location Based Services" it backed up fine. My BB Admin called RIM and he said the device had to be wiped. After the wipe and restore I did a backup and it ran fine. But once I used the GPS, I was back to the same problem. I am thinking it's a problem in 4.5.0.81. I'll deal with with it until I feel like upgrading to a newer version.

Default Location based services the culprit - 01-15-2009, 03:56 PM

I also had and have a backup issue, however after painstakingly backing up file by file, discovered it was the location based services file. Not sure what it is or how to delete it however I can backup with advanced as long as that file is excluded.

Oh and I also forgot. it will not backup the onboard device memory either
