when I first set up my Bold I set the browser for hotspot access. I noticed the WiFi icon was in the top right corner with the arrows showing data coming and going.

The icon has now gone. I still get the arrows, and its still using WiFi..

Question is, where has the icon gone, and can i get it back?

Its like the browser is at full screen.

What OS version do you have installed on the phone?

I had this issue with the 4.6.0.15x builds. Upgrading to 4.6.0.162 corrected the problem.

it is an 15x version..

I will wait and see what happens.. i thought a reset might fix it but it didn't (soft reset)

I reverted back to .147 due to this issue, and the wifi issues with Jivetalk. Then upgraded to .162 and I am issue free.

Not sure if this is what you mean but on my Curve when I'm in the browser I can hit the "U" key and toggle the strip at the top on and off.

Not exactly. On 4.6.0.15x, the banner ribbon in the browser would show the carrier signal bars and not the wifi badge, the same issue as Jivetalk. In the case of the browser, the data transfer speed would at times reflect using Edge of wifi, and the same for JiveTalk.

This was not case while using 4.6.0.147 and 4.6.0.162, both display the wifi badge in the banner ribbon and the transfer speeds reflect use of wifi over Edge.

Thanks for the "U" short cut. When I get back in WiFi range I will give it a go.

Couple more questions.

My WiFi stalls, I am still connected to the HotSpot or router but it just stalls. After a period of time it will start to work again. Is this also a bug??

If I was to upgrade the OS do i have to re-activate the BES or will it all work as it was after the upgrade?

You must reactivate on BES after an upgrade.

Doing the battery remove reboot got the icon back as it should be..

Just have to fix the WiFi hanging issue.
