Default My list of problems with the Rogers Bold - 10-06-2008, 08:48 AM

1. Drop about 1/4 of my calls.
2. People call and say they get my voicemail alot, when I have perfect reception. Sometimes messages are even apparently left that dont show up on my display and are not even there when I check my mailbox.
3. 1/4 of the time I make outgoing calls I can't and display reads "radio path unavailable."
4. Phone often resets itself with a white screen and error messages that I can't get rid of until I do several battery pulls.

These are the issues that I had. Obviously at this time an unreliable phone. When I called Rogers tech support to have it deemed defective and return it, I was told "off the record" that all users are having the same problems and it relates somehow to the 3G chip but they do not have a fix for it yet. She told me that they might not as it seems to be a hardware issue and in her opinion they should have never released it when they did and it should be recalled!! I also spoke with everyone I know at work that has one, and they too are experiencing all the above problems.

I went back to my Curve. I would love to keep the Bold but too many issues. I now find myself with a brand new, in the box, Bold from Rogers that they sent me as a replacement and will sell it.

This does seem to be a problem with Rogers. Yu can set the phone to only use 2G, which fixes the problem, but that partially defeats the object of having a 3G phone. I am using my Bold in the UK and it is fine. Seems to be a compatibility problem with Rogers and the Bold.

What OS are you using?
Try .147 (sticky at top of this forum)

It only takes 20 mins to upgrade the OS on a Bold. Well worth the time.
I'm on Rogers also and I've had nowhere near that many issues. But I got rid of .125 pretty much as soon as I could

Thanks for the replies. Call me "different" but I would rather wait until Rogers comes out with a new OS and not use another. Are you saying that if I switch my phone to 2G only, then ALL of my above problems will be gone?

Another happy Rogers user here. Fortunately, I have never had any of the problems you describe. I do live in an area where 3G reception is quite strong, and have my device set to '3G only' unless I'm out in the burbs. As the others have said though, I didn't even spend 5 minutes with the orignal OS (125). I've been keeping up with the latest betas, but my wife is still running 126 and it's been really good too.

That's kinda why I suggested .147 as it is official (although not by Rogers)
I found 147 to be a good release. 162 is better still but not officially released.

Try the 2g thing. If that doesn't help, before you ship it back, try .147

I'm sure you won't regret it. Waiting for Rogers is worse than watching paint dry

I have both a Rogers Bold and a Fido iPhone and I have found the problems I experience occur with both devices (dropped calls, going straight to VM, etc.)

While at work everything works great (which is in Milton, Ontario, a 2G only area) and at home everything is also great (which is Downtown Toronto, a well covered 3G area.) Travelling between work and home is where I have seen most issues and switching from 2G to 3G has always dropped the call for me (which I think is odd but c'est la vie.)

I have found Rogers only posts new OSes when it suits them (a new device is released) and the fact RIM releases devices to new markets monthly or even weekly and they are constantly updating the code has left me using the current release no matter what vendor. I think Rogers officially supported 4.2.1 on the 8700r a few months before 4.5 was released for the 8700.

I have Bold on Rogers... many similar problems!

1. Lots of "Call failed" when first trying to dial, many mid-call also
2. Almost everyday I will get a phone call that just appears as a VM (while reception is perfect). The call does not show in the call log as a missed call.

It is the best yet.

your problem is definitely your location. where you are does not get good 3G reception, and thats why you will get dropped calls, incoming calls will go straight to VM.

change it to 2G and it will eliminate all of the above problems.

same thing happened to me.

I do know that, where I live, we have no 3G coverage at all. It was still always set on 3g though. So..switch mode to 2g only?

Make Sure you have the new sim card on the blackberry not an old one
the rogers store seem to not change the sim cards or give you one (witch they are required to ) when you get a new phone

I'm based in Vancouver. 100% clear and clean calls. No voice jail at any time.
Never seems to switch out of 3G mode.

Sorry to hear of your troubles elsewhere in the country.

Do yourself a favour : .162 is officially released by Rogers this weekend - do it. .167 is "out there " somewhere else - easy to find if you have the inclination to use Google. Either would make your Berry much happier than the .125 that the phone shipped with.

Cheers!
