1. Make sure you have Desktop Manager 4.6 installed. Older versions will load the OS but may not be full compatible with all the memory of the Bold. You can get DM 4.6 here:

2. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

I have 4.6.0.162 (292) on my Bold, updated it yesterday.

So far battery life has been great although I keep it on 2G 90% of the time.
No issues with WIFI, except browser still sucks, faster but slower and hangs occasionally. Memory does not leak as much as previous versions.

But otherwise no issues to report.

Please, Is German included?

Download .155, uninstall your old firmware, install .155 plug your phone and start DM 4.6, then click upgrade... during the process it will give you the list of the available languages, which you should be able to tell if does support German or not.. If not just click cancel and no harm will be done, simple! :D

Don't confuse the guy. It's called .162 and not by the platform number .155.

Ya, this one deserved to be a posted carrier release. I'm hesitant to upgrade from this one, since it was so good.

Just installed ver. 4.6.0.167 couple of hours ago.

Working fine on my Bold.

And what OS are you running on your bold? When we talk about our OS's that we are running we are usually referring to the application number and not the platform or release number.

Just installed ver. 4.6.0.167 also, working great, seems that the actual response from the ball and clicks is much faster.

Installed .147 today and now my bookmark key (k) does no longer work when using the BB browser. It still works with the Rogers browser. Any suggestions?

Got a quick and maybe dumb question for you guys . . . since about 2 or 3 weeks ago , I can not make any backups to my Bold , I even made a thread in the forum about that , and I still can't , so if I want to do an upgrade , will this be an issue for me ?? will this represent any trouble ?? will I get a general reset because of this ?? or will it be like any other upgrade where my BB Bold stays exactly the same just with a different OS version ?? thanks you guys !!

i figured it out - deleted by foxnews icon and then re-downloaded it. The (k) bookmark shortcut now works again

A question - should the new OS supposed to further improve battery life? I already noticed improvement when I downloaded the last version 0.147. Hopefully, it should improve further...has anyone who downloaded it earlier noticed any further improvements?

Dude . . . been there done that , heck I even made a thread about having backup problems so here it is again . . .

If I can not backup my device , will the upgrade still go A ok ?? or is it a no no ?? can I do it with out first backing up everything ?? what would happen to all the stuff I have ?? will it be erased ?? can anybody help or clarify this for me ??

I do not want to brick my Bold , I know how to upgrade , I have done it a couple of times , I just need to know if not being able to backup , is an issue for upgrading , I will really really appreciate any help on this guys !!

Loko, if you are worried about the backup in 4.6- don't use the desktop manager. When you install the updated files look in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and find loader.exe - Run that, this is the old school loader program that will force a backup and restore.

Does this upgrade delete all the sounds and ringtones the same as previous versions?

oooooh ok !! did not knew that !! so I can do an upgrade with out the DM and still leave my device exactly as it was before the upgrade right ??

Hey dude . . . so I did my upgrade , everything went just smooth , just wanted to ask you if this is ok (the amount of free memory that I have)

available memory looks very low to me... Normally I have around 32Mb

Really depends on what Apps you have on your BOLD. Have you deleted all unnecessary stuff like language et all? If you've got tons of apps, that seems ok. So long as there isn't much memory leaks.

How's the OS? Stable? Any issues? Batt life for sure has improved ey? Plan on upgrading tonight. Hope everything goes well.

Ok so I soft reset my Bold and at the start with out pressing anything or doing nothing but going into memory , I get 41mb , but if I use any app (just one) it goes down to 32mb is that ok ??

Seems fine and stable. Memory leak very minimal. Am monitoring the batt life. Many in this thread have said it's much better. Will provide report in 12 hours or so... :D

I've just updated the initial post with the latest Rogers release of this same OS, save apps and software version, just the Multilanguage package.

Again, same OS, all the same, just additional languages, usually European. Both OS downloads include English.

Major problem here. I switch off my blackberry at night. When I turn it on in the morning it does not download any new mails. I tried sending one to myself from my BB and though it reached my server my BB never downloaded it. So no more emails are being downloaded.
Will try and downgrade to .147 and report.

just resend your service books after each upgrade.
