Default Anyone else have speaker issues?

Please Login to Remove!

Over the last few days I've noticed an increasing amount of distortion on the sound quality of calls. It's a mild reverberation noise, which I think has been caused by a design flaw.

I keep it in the standard case it came with, and seems that the way to remove it from this case is to grip it between thumb and fore-finger. Because its a tight fitting case, i need to apply a little more pressure than I'd like to, and consequently I *think* this has squashed the speaker against the screen enough to distort the sound.

There's no other way to remove it from the case.

Has anyone else found this, and are there any suggestions?
Thanks

Same here. I use a Fortte slide in case for an 8800 and it fits a little snug. Are you sure it isn't your signal causing the reverberation?

Positive. Signal is fine on my other phone, on the same network. It's definitely a degraded speaker performance on the Bold, and i can only think it's due to the pressure I have to put on it when i take it out the casing.

Does anyone know if it's possible (or safe) to somehow remove the front of the Bold? That way I could confirm 100% if it is the casing vibrating against the speaker.

Yes, it is safe, although it will likely void your warranty. And you don't remove the front as much as you remove the back (if that makes sense). See:

CNN.CN

Click on the video tab to see the disassembly video. You will definitely need the right tools to do this, though.

yep, same here, the call quality is absolutely shocking, worst I have ever had on a phone which is extremely disappointing - i also thought it was an issue with the speakers but I have tried using the headset and the calls are still extremely distorted. I also played some music through the speakers and it sounds fine so its either the network (never had a problem with the curve) or some fault with software etc).

have you upgraded to .163 or .167? I am still .125 so i'm thinking of upgrading to see if this solves it.

cheers

I'm on version .126, but I don't think it could be that. This is an issue that suddenly started. Until this problem I was amazed with the sound quality on calls to be honest, so I do suspect its damaged, either by the pressure removing it from the case, or potentially from playing Marilyn Manson on full volume handsfree?

Just to add a different point of view, I find the speaker/headset performance on my Bold to be just fine. As a matter of fact, I find the speaker excellent, and use it in a pinch to play music (like when getting ready in the morning).

Not doubting you are having a hardware issue, Heathen123, just wanted to add that there are those of us that don't find the performance of the speaker to be sub-par.

yep agree, the speakers are excellent for playing music.. i dont know why on calls there is this heavy distortion, I'm in Malaysia and a few people are reporting the same problem on calls on both networks that have the bold... weird..

I do suspect its caused by pressing the screen into the speaker every time I remove it from the pouch, and over time it has ended up slightly in contact with it, hence the vibration.

I had a buzzing sound coming out of the earpiece only when the volume was set above the half way mark. It sounded a little bit like a blown speaker. I took it backt to Rogers and after some difficulty, got a replacement and haven't had any issues with that one.

I am on .167 - launch event BOLD. My call quality is the BEST I have ever had but I am getting choppy speaker phone performance on calls.

Turns out it was only on VM with the speakerphone on. I delete the password under Options>VM as it seems to be self populating on ATT and the problem is gone.

Is anyone getting strange high pitched whine or was? When trying to talk on the phone? Like feedback before the phone even dials? Am I just hearing things? (I FINALLY got mine like 3 hours ago)

I hear the high pitched whine but I think that's coming from the screen when it's illuminated. Try it...press any button and put it up to your ear and see if you hear the same whine.
