Default Bold - Orange UK Tariffs

Please Login to Remove!

My Orange contract is due for renewal in a few weeks and I already have an iPhone on an O2 contract, but I'm fed up with its touchscreen for Email, Texting and IM.
I love it for browsing but it so fiddly to type!!!

Anyway I've been looking at the phones on Orange and only the Bold really jumps out as me as a great device, I've read the issues some have had and I see that the problems regarding no BB Maps or WLM are able to be worked around even on an Orange Branded Blackberry Bold.

I was however a bit worried about the data tariffs on Orange, a fair usage policy of only 250MB seems a bit stingy for email and for data usage.

Is the 250Mb a lot or am I likely to go over this? Just wondering what other people experiences are, also is there anyway to get a higher limit from Orange, i.e a Bolt On, or different tariff??

Regards

Chris

Hi

I use my Bold constantly for surfing, emailing, bbm and pin messaging. I also have about 10 applications that I run.

My usage last mnonth was only 130mb.

250mb should therefore be more than enough for a fairly heavy user.

i find the 250mb is plenty - it includes all your orange world access too, I use MSN, Facebook and blackberry msger on mine, the bandwidth used by the 1st too, is very minimal. - plus, you can always use your wifi (if you have some) for free at home too

I spoke to someone who was saying that Orange Automatically Add the 5 Data Bundle onto All "Animal" tariffs when you sign up for free for 2 months, even if you have Blackberry Email on top of it.
Does this mean that if you Have say Dolphin 35 + Blackberry and the 5 add on on top that you get a greater donwload allowance?

Its not unlimited though is it?
Even on a Blackberry Tariff its got a FUP of 250Mb?
I just wondered if having both would increase the monthly usage limit on the contract.

the point im trying to make is, your phone wont use it - its just dead money, you might as well send me your fiver a month

Extract from Sept 07 bill, when it was 15/month for 6mb:

Internet talk for Blackberry : 08 Sep - 07 Oct 11.91
Unlimited Anytime Text : 08 Sep - 07 Oct 0.00

Internet talk for Blackberry : 6 Mb GPRS
Megabytes available at beginning of period 6.0000
Inclusive megabytes used 2.8862
Service Plan megabytes next period 6.0000
Megabytes available next period 6.0000

the old blackberry tariff used to include 25 free sms too, but since i was on dolphin, it never used them; to every month i used to see this:

Internet talk for Blackberry : 25 Text messages
Text Messages available at beginning of period 25
Service Plan text messages next period 25
Text Messages available next period 25

in Oct 07, i went over the 3000 sms FUP:

Internet talk for Blackberry : 08 Oct - 07 Nov 11.91
Unlimited Anytime Text : 08 Oct - 07 Nov 0.00

Text Summary
Inclusive text messages used 3143
Additional text messages used 1
Total text messages 3144

but my 25 was *Still* there:

Internet talk for Blackberry : 25 Text messages
Text Messages available at beginning of period 25
Service Plan text messages next period 25
Text Messages available next period 25

I fail to see how you could, I mean. Youtube on bold is data intensive, but I've only had this work on wifi, which is free to use as much as you like! Esp in pubs/bars with free wifi lol

Yeah your probably right, and with having an iPhone as well I'm likely to use it for any sort of video streaming from You Tube rather than the BB.

Its just I was on Web N Walk on T Mobile on the PDA I had before which I used for IM, Email etc and always knew I had 1Gb of allowance, the only 2 things I can see using which would use a lot are IM and maybe Internet Radio, but am I worrying about nothing?

Just wondering if anyone has upgraded to the BB Bold through Carphone Warehouse?
Two questions, what kind of deal did you get I.e tariff and handset cost?
Also do the unbranded Bolds from CPW come with Blackberry Maps?

Id rather deal with a carrier direct, I think if Orange don't have to Bold available again shortly I'll be switching to Vodafone for it as their tariffs and costs seem very competitive and it's in stock!
