Default messenger red x - 10-19-2008, 04:17 PM

ok here is the deal i have a rogers blackberry bold. I live in canada but go to school in the UK. When i first got here i was having no problems with it but recently i have been having issues with BB messenger. I can message some people at home but the rest have a red x beside there name. If they send me a message I can read it but when I try to reply all I get is the check mark and it will not go though. I have just javawhiped the entire thing and put on .162 os and it has done nothing.

Anyone have any idea?

I have no idea! Which part of the UK do you study in?

My other (main) phone is a Nokia N82.
Now if only someone can combine a Bold and an N82 and I'll have my perfect phone

Most of the time, if you click on the message with the red x, either near the beginning or the end it'll give you an error message, which in most cases will tell you whats wrong going with it.

I believe the red x over a contact's name in BBMessenger means they have set their status to Unavailable. To check, highlight the contact's name in your list, press the Menu button and click Contact Info.

I have one in my list right now that is set to Unavailable and he has a red x over his little smiley face.

They might not be receiving your messages if they have turned off data.

Try sending them a PIN message or an email instead and see if it goes thru.

I have no idea... I saw that last night too, I would lean towards the explanation that the person has put their status as unavailable (as someone above mentioned).

I went to Cardiff a few years ago for a soccer cup final, but I live in England

sorry guys let me explain again. it's not the unavailable sign its an actual red X over there name. They can send me message which I can read but I can't reply to them. I have two friends on o2 berrys, one bold and one curve and they are having the same issues. We only share one contact and neither of us can message that particular person. I would say about 40% of my friends at home on rogers I can't message via messenger or via an actual PIN message.

That sounds like a IT Policy issue. Are you on a BES?

that's the weird thing I'm not on BES i'm just an individual user. It would make sense if it was all my contacts and possibly something with data but its only some and they can still message me. I tried reconfiguring everything...service books....all of my blackberry tricks. Nothing....and the fact that my two other friends have the same issue is even more strange

This seems to be a problem with the Bold or maybe it is the 4.6 OS.

A contact can be active but as soon as a message is sent, the active status turns into a red x then a clock. The contact has not actively signed out and is not showing under the 'offline' heading. It can aslo happen mid conversation.

It's as if BBM is disconnecting for a short while.

I'm not on BES.

It's annoying :(

My friend from Europe is experiencing the same problem with me( I'm in Canada, on Rogers). She see a red x beside my name and cannot send message to me. However I and message her just fine. She is also on a Bold.

Does anyone know if this is a Bold issue or a Blackberry Network issue?

I don't think it's just a bold issue cause one of my friends is on a curve and she is getting the same issue. it's not all contacts though only some which doesnt make sense

I'm having the same problem. I am in Israel with the Bold on 4.6.0.166. The strange part is 1 of my Canadian contacts works and the other Canadian and American don't. All my messenger contacts used to work. I might try downgrading to 4.6.0.162 to see if its a release issue. Other suggestions would be appreciated.
