I have an unlocked Bold that I'm running on AT&T. I have upgraded the OS three times so far - to .147, .162 and now .167. All three upgrades went smoothly and no, my Bold hasn't been locked in any way. Locking refers to the SIM card only and unless you or your carrier makes any changes to your SIM card, you will never have a locking problem. Upgrading the OS has nothing to do with locking your SIM card.
