Default ATT Billing (Bold)

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,
I am looking into getting the Bold from Walmart. I am 18 and just got approved for my first credit card today. So I guess I don't have much credit? So I am kinda iffy on if I will get approved for ATT, any ideas?

I am looking into this plain:
AT&T Nation 1350 w/Rollover $79.99
Blackberry Personal $30.00
Messaging Unlimited $20.00
Mouthy Fee.** $129.99

I know there is a $36.00 Activation Fee, that will be on the first bill. But my main question is, I hear the first bill is doubled? Can I get any truth to this or how the first bill works. This is from iPhone complainers, tat complain it's to expensive. While I know we pay a Blackberry premium, I feel it's worth it being a 8830 user for a year. My contract is up and I payed my stepdad the difference every month. I would just like to have my own phone plain in my own name. Mainly so I can build up some credit and have more usage of the Blackberry. With that being said, can someone explain to me how the first payment works?

The Walmart deal is actually just farmed out to Letstalk.com so you can just go to that site and call the 800# and ask them. They havea great rate on the Bold (free after rebate)...just be caution of a couple of things... 1) you can not change your plan for the first 6 months without a fee 2) you have to keep atleast a $59 voice plan (not a big deal)...and you have to keep unlimited Text to get your rebate. Lastly, you can NOT get your rebate for about 5 months... I read the fine print and to qualify for the rebate you have to send in a copy of your 4th billing statement... yikes. but still a good price if all that is good with you.

Yea, I am find with that. Seeing as it was the plain I was going to order from ATT anyways. But, I would still like some information about the first bill. I keep getting different stories...

Thanks,
Steven

PS: Thanks for reading small print, could not find my glasses...

Update: I just called there 1800 number and asked about details about first month bill. They could not really explain anything to me, the lady kinda act confused. She kept saying the phone is free and what not... Will my first month bill be $129.99 plus taxes and activation fee. Or will I get stamped with hidden fee's like the iPhone users are telling me?

okay

the first bill works like this. You sign up for service, you are assigned a bill cycle randomly you have no say in what the cycle is.

example lets say you went into ATT on 2nd November to activate and the bill cycle assigned is the 4th. You would pay activation fee plus 2 days service and first full months service. not bad as the the 4th is the bill cycle date.

Now lets say you came in on the 5th (one day into bill cycle) they will not bill for a partial cycle even if only one day into it. In this scenario your first bill would be pretty much 2 months service Yikes big first bill.

hope this helps some

and yes the 4th is an actual ATT bill cycle date. this can vary from market to market

to OP with little or no credit expect a 300+ deposit again this can vary depending upon the market you are in

Alright, so I take it this is a "good" time to sign up? If so, if the deposit is a bit high then I want to pay, can I back out if I go through LetsTalk? Because I don't get when they do a credit check. Not that I am to concern, but I want to pay as little as possible up front. If I have to pay $300 deposit up front, I rather go with Sprint, that my brother paid $150 (He had no credit, but that was a while back). I would then go with a Curve, from LetsTalk.com of $20 after rebate. I would also get the simply everything plain.

Alright, I can't seem to find out where to do this on ATT? While I do have the money to pay for the Bold, $300 Deposit and the possible $200+ past/first month. I may just wait to my next pay check and still go with ATT. I just don't want to break the bank for a phone, you know what I mean? But one last question; is the deposit like on rent? Where I get it back at the end of the contract, where as I made all my payments on time?

Edit: I just feel as the Deposit is a waste... But I know it will probably be necessary.

Update:
I just did a credit check for the iphone 3G with ATT. I am guessing it would be about the same for the Blackberry Bold?

Credit Check Results: Congratulations, we were able to set-up a temporary account for you. However a $500 deposit, payable in-store, will be required. You may be eligible for additional linesxxx8722;please see an AT&T store sales representative for more details. Limit one online validation per customer. Go to the nearest AT&T store to complete your purchase*.

If this is so, $300 is doable (Kinda). But $500 is not, seeing the phone is $549 retail. I believe you can buy the phone at retail and avoid sighing a contract? That would therefore allow me to not have to put a huge deposit in, correct?

If this is true, I am strongly leaning toward Sprint. Since I hear they are way more acceptable to people with little or no credit? I was told the deposit would be $150 from my brother and friend. Both had little or no credit at time. Seems as they both will be cheaper.

IDK, any ideas? I really want the Bold, even though I hear it's not much of an update compared to my 8830...

What I was told, it's the same OS with an fancy UI. But you get a much faster Processor that makes Apps faster, other then things being speedy it's the same? The camera is not a big deal to me because I always carry my Canon G9 and plain on ordering the 50D next year.

I think I may go for it, I will sleep on it and decide around lunch... I would like to know if I will get the deposit back after 11 mouths or so?

Wirelessly posted (troydbrown is Chad!)

Deposit is returned after 12 months. If you miss a payment the 12 months start from that point again. You will have to request a check otherwise it is applied to the acct.

Your deposit is payable even if you go the no-commitment route. Basicaly you don't have any kind of payment history so they use the deposit to secure the acct incase you fail to make your payments

Update:
After getting my credit check with ATT Online (For iPhone only way I saw). My Deposit would be $500 and is just crazy if you ask me. Do you think it would be different for the BlackBerry Bold (What I want)?

But I did take a gander at Sprint and had them do a Credit Check. They said I don't have to put a penny down. So I am thinking about ordering the Curve and the Simply Everything plain ($99 Monthly). This is looking very temping; cheaper up front, mouthy, and no deposit. I may not get the Bold like I wanted, but at the savings it's worth it (Not to). Hmmm, decisions... Put it this way if I did not have to put down a deposit, I would be 100% Bold. Even though the plain cost more and you don't get Unlimited Minutes.

Any last minute words before I order tonight?
