Default WiFi Tethering?

Please Login to Remove!

I go to a local starbucks, and mcdonalds, where usually I have to pay to get connected. But with my Bold, since it's AT&T, it connects to it automatically and free of charge.

If I try connecting with my laptop, I have to sign in and pay before I can use their wifi.

Is there any 3rd Party or a way to tether to my Bold while my Bold is connected to AT&T hotspot? It would be useful since some of us don't have tethering capability and why not use the advantage of having Bold?

Looks like the old way of dialing with *99# is to dial for Data Connection rather than WiFi.

Tethering in cellular wireless is the connection of a non-mobile device (e.g. desktop computer, notebook computer, laptop computer), to a mobile device (e.g. cell phone, PDA) for the purpose of wireless Internet access by the non-mobile "tethered" device. Examples of a tethered connection include:

* Serial cable
* USB cable
* PC Card (also known as PCMCIA)
* IrDA (infrared wireless)
* Bluetooth wireless
* WiFi wireless

After doing a little bit more research, I found this. Though it's not what I'm looking for, but it would be great if you're out of town and would like to share your 3G Connection among your family while on a road trip.

CradlePoint Technology

UltraPortable

The PHS300 creates a fully portable WiFi Hotspot from broadband-enabled cellular phones and modems. Take WiFi to a new level by 'bringing it with you'.
Secure

Built-in firewall keeps you in control of your Cellular bandwidth, and WEP/WPA security allows you and your colleagues to work in a fully secure environment.
Simple

Complete Plug-and-Play solution. Plug in your phone or USB modem, connect your PC to this Hotspot, then surf the Internet.

Default Wifi Tethering

- Install the latest AT& Communicaitons Manager and run
- Cable up Bold with USB cable or use Bluetooth
- You can turn off 3G net to make sure you are using Wifi in Starbucks
- ACM will pick up the network connection on the 3G tab. Click connect and surf away.
