That is odd with the AIM client not visible as I am using my own theme and also have the RIM AIM client. You might check the hidden icons or it could be a random bug...

For those of you unable to find maps, check your downloads folder, that's where mine was.

I'm also getting an error when I try to run it. I think if you have a version > .167 it won't run. I have .185.

Also, I realized that when I changed to the Silver Theme, BBMaps showed up...You don't have to download Darkhorse's theme

There are a few people on the first page of this thread that have .190 loaded and it worked for them. At least, they haven't posted to say they were having issues with it since they uploaded. Perhaps just an issue with .185?

I'm on version 4.6.0.167 (Platform 4.0.0.157). Do I need another version?

Nope, it works with .167. You will need to download the OS and install it on your PC so that you can load the app though.

This may sound stupid, but AT&T is an american thing... being in the uk, if i change to the at&t software (www *dot* blackberry *dot* com/Downloads/entry.do?code=577BCC914F9E55D5E4E4F82F9F00E7D4) will it f**k my phone up?

I did update my phone just using the blackberry site before which unlocked the mobile browser as well as the hotspot browser but no maps, even with maps selected and changing the theme to the one posted in this thread.... but it didnt mention anything about at&t like the link i have posted there...

It worked! I will enjoy it until ATT figures out a way to take it off again.

Hey guys, I hate to keep going with this and I'm a noob but I still don't see it in the applications folder when I have my 9000 sync'd to my PC. I have version 167 on the BB, I have desktop software 4.6, and I downloaded 167 from the AT&T link. I'm on a different theme too. Still no luck. What am I doing wrong here? I miss BB Maps!

Is it showing up in the applications list under Advanced Options after you download it with the app loader in DM? If it is, is the service book for BlackBerry Maps listed (Under Advanced Options also)?

So Ive followed all the steps and have the BBmaps icon on my screen I can open the program just fine, but it wont find the satellites for gps service. All the settings for the device gps are "on" or "active" but while using BBmaps when I ask it to "find my location" it just sits on "searching for satellites". Ive got full 3G service where Im sitting but I am inside. should that matter? Is this a common problem? Am I doing something wrong? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Yea, GPS doesnt work so well indoors It really needs a clear view of the sky to work properly.

Take a walk outside and give it a try!

^^Cosigned. Mine didn't get a lock until I walked near my front door. Being downstairs in a half sunken basement wasn't really jelling with the GPS so well...

I must be slow as well. I have updated to 4.7 for the desktop software, have .167 for my blackberry software, but when I go to the blackberry site to download blackberry maps it tells me I don't have a supported device. How do I actually get the app on my desktop to load it on my device?

Download the actual OS software to your PC (.167 or higher), install it, go into Desktop Manager, App Loader, Add/Remove Applications, check the box that says BlackBerry Maps, upload to the device.

Thanks, that worked. Now when I try and use blackberry maps it says I cannot use due to IT policy. Any ideas on that? Thanks for your help.

Sounds like you're on BES and IT locked that feature out. If you've got pull with anyone in IT, ask them if they can make the necessary changes to allow you to use the app.

Yup. I was just out of signal range in my apartment. It works flawlessly in dense tree cover and surprisingly even in midtown Manhattan with the heavy building blockage. Its way better than the Google Maps app which at best had my location off by 4 blocks off (200+/- yards) and at worst 22 (about a mile). Well worth the system upgrade to get around the app blockage.

Does anyone know if the is a way to view the map in satellite imaging like Gmaps, or is it locked into simple map view?

Its not showing up in the applications list after I downloaded the software in DM. I do however have it in the service books. What do I do now? Thanks in advance.

Had you just done the OS upgrade before you started BB Maps? If your device hadn't had a chance to register with the wireless network again after the upgrade, that could be the culprit.

Also, try refreshing your GPS and see if it gives a location (Options->Advanced Options->GPS->Menu key->Refresh GPS). If your GPS can lock in your location, BB Maps should work.

Mine showed up in the home folder, but it's probably theme dependent. Have you checked the downloads folder? Some others have reported finding the icon there.

Running .167
Installed most current OS linked from BBforums, installed Desktop manager 4.7
Plugged into desktop, selected App loader, ticked BB maps
From the handset i instaleld a non vendor theme ota:
http://www.onthearm.com/otajad/com_p...o2_no_wrap.jad
And Voila! BB maps working on ATT and even liked in the PIN messaging!
Now hopfully this means ATT no longer has blocked the service books and will be allowing BBmaps in the near future
(taking a wild guess from the recent addition of MSN, AIM and ICQ service books available on the ATT network)

I am brand new to the BlackBerry and I am having issues with getting the BBMaps to show up on my phone. I will try to give all the information I can, and if I am missing something let me know.

I have installed the OS on my PC, and have Desktop Manager 4.6 installed. I have installed BBMaps via the App loader and verified BBMaps is installed on the phone (Under Applications). I did look at the Service Books that was reference above and I do not have any reference to BBMaps anywhere. Could this be my problem? I have tried DM4.7 and that did not work, I have changed to two different themes and that did not work also.

I am actually going to start supporting BlackBerry's at my work, so I am trying to learn as much as I can about the phone. I am sure BBMaps will be requested, so I am trying to get it going.

I have the Bold running on the AT&T network. The OS version is 4.6.0.167 (Platform 4.0.0.157).

Thank you for any help you can give me.

Thanks for all of the help. I went ahead and added via Desktop Manager and changed themes and there it was.

My problem is that once I changed theme, I lost a lot of my screen icons (Google, Cnn, Facebook, etc...).

Is there something I am missing?

They may have moved or could be hidden. Try looking in the Downloads folder or selecting "Show All" from the menu.

My problem is fixed.

It appears that my carrier (at&T) had me on the wrong data plan. Once I was put on the correct plan, it showed up. Guess that makes a difference.
