Hi, I am on Rogers Wireless with the 6Gb Data Plan, I set up the modem for Tethering with the Bold, my only question is when using it am I using up my data plan only or am I also using up my minutes? Also if i am surfing regular sites with no streaming how much data will I use when tethering on my laptop?

Thanks you
Ray

You're using data... and when you're tethering, you're using a LOT of data.
I don't know your particular usage style, but I don't think it would be difficult to eat up 6GB a month if you tether a lot.

6GB is decent amount of data for tethering purposes. The data won't be compressed as it is when using it on the device, but you have a lot of room there. Keep an eye on the tethering connection (in system tray) for how much you actually using. You are not using any minutes while tethered. You can also make and receive calls while tethered which will of course use your minutes.

To put it in prespective, with my home DSL, I use, on average, 2.5 GB per month. This includes several hours surfing daily, Vista and virus updates, the occasional torrent and lots of you-tube.

During September, while I was away from home most of the month, I tethered almost daily, for an hour or two, with my Bold. Same surfing habits as above. I managed to use a wopping .75 GB.

Happy tethering!

Tethering is the Exact reason Rogers does not offer an unlimited plan.

I am willing to bet you will need some application to be able to teather your BB to your machine. I now one of the guys in our Boston office had to ask ATT for the software which allowed him to teather his BB.
