for some reason now when I lock my phone I am required to enter a password as opposed to entering a and send like before.how can I fix this?

Is your phone connected to a company Enterprise Server or is it personal use only?

Personal use. I was messing with the security settings and must have changed something

In the security (or password) section, you enabled the password. On 4.6, I think there is a separate Options / Password section.

Go in there and see what options you can change to remove the password.

There's only one security options p, and I disabled everything. It is still requiring me to enter a password every time I lock the phone
