Hi,

While I was trying to revive my Bold that was suddenly dead with One Flash and 4 quick red flashed,
I notice that inside the unit next to the sim card there a small round metallic things that look likes a battery. Out of curiousity, I took a multimeter and measure if it indeed had voltage on it and it did ! On mine dead BB Bold it measures 2.6Volt, upon plugging-in the USB charger it start creeping up slowing toward 2.7V and slowly inching up to 3.0V I presume. I did not notice any sign of battery inside my Curve 8320, that I also have. If it indeed a battery, is that means every few years or so we need to get it replaced ? can anyone confirm this ??

I lifted the skirt over top of mine and sure enough it looks like a battery to me. I didn't dare move it because if it was soldered into place I didn't want to move it and have to fight with it.

Same here, it held firmly or either soldered directly on board. It does not look to be user replaceable, and Silver/Lithium batteries are prone to leaks and failures, this is un RIM likes.

I happen to be fixing a 8703e yesterday and seen this (See attached photo) it looks like most of the devices have this. It's just to keep a internal clock running.
