Default Bold Charging Pod

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,
I'm thinking about getting the charging pod for the Bold. Anyone using it have any comments? I like it better than the power station that looks much larger and don't need to charge a spare battery. I just want to be sure I just drop the phone in the charging pod and don't need to connect to the usb port. Also, is it heavy enough that it won't tip over with a slight nudge?

I just got one (arrived yesterday) and I plugged it into my charging cable and used it last night. I must say, it's really nice and makes it look excellent when it's charging. Very convenient, you just drop it in and it charges.

I got mine on eBay (I think his name is talkaccessories) and the price was reasonable and fast shipping.

Overall, for under $20 it is definitely worth getting

Thanks for the feedback. I've seen them from Amazon sellers (using shopping.com) for as little as $12. They claim to be RIM manufactured parts.

-just bought one from newegg for $12.99.

I guess that answers a question I was about to post regarding bedside mode in the charging pod. I take it that works just fine based on the fact you use it as your clock.

It doesnt go into bedside mode when it goes in the podit just shows the clock the same as when you charge the phone.

Which, if you have your BB set to go into bedside mode when charging, then it would do the same thing.

I bought one and
A) I prefer to keep the oem rubber case on my berry so the cradle becomes useless, and B) The cradle isn't all that sturdy. One sleep induced arm slap to turn off the alarm and my bold would fly straight into my wall and promptly fall apart.
C) It's not all that sturdy in my opinion because the Bold is a pig. You could knock it over without that much effort.
Anyone wanna buy mine? lol

Where were you two hours ago! Sounds like I need to cancel that order.

How does it charge? There are no charging ports on the back like on the Curve. Only way I can see to charge it is by plugging into the side.

Wirelessly posted

There are two charging contacts at the base of the Bold.

I like the pod so far, although I agree that it might be nice to have a more solid lock-in into the charger. I am going to try one other charging stand (the black eBay special) and then decide.

I do agree that it doesn't sit all that tightly in the base and I do worry about my little tiger knocking it over at night (he likes to spill the water on the nightstand when it comes time to "get up"). But I definitely prefer it to having to fish around for the charging plug which my cat usually hides somewhere behind the bed while I am at work.

Can you post back here letting us know how you like it?

Any comments on the power station? This is for my desk and although it is larger than I'd like, maybe that would be a better solution for me.

I've got a Charging Pod for my Bold and was seriously impressed with it! In fact so much so that when i get my BlackBerry 8220 flip phone i'll be getting a dock for it when it becomes available...

Whoever thought of the Bedside Mode + Dock combination deserves the Nobel Peace Prize or a Medal or something! Simplified Genius is how i could term it

I bought powerstation but end up purchasing cradle for my bold. powerstation looks good on desk but it do not provide option for sync and have many pieces to stay on place. cradle is doing all jobs for me inc charging, sync and xtra battery charge... check the one I have pdaking.com

Yea dude, if you still haven't bought one, you can have mine for cheaper than however much they cost new. I don't even remember what I paid for mine.

I like it alot. In fact, I seem to like it more now that I have been using it a few days than I did originally.

I am still considering a cradle identical to the one that techcrazy provided a link to above, because it charges AND provides a USB connection. But in everyday use, I just don't require the hard cable USB connection that often, especially since I can do most frequent app data syncs via bluetooth.

There is something to be said for the simplicity of not having a new device connection made to the PC every time I need to charge the BB handset. I am always a big proponent of the-less-devices-hooked-to-the-pc-the-better, and the charging pod goes along with this. It is very simple, but effective, and I like that.

I have never used the power station. So the only thing I can say about it is that it seemed sort of "clunky" to me, and provides additional features that I don't need and wouldn't use. I believe it is probably heavier than the pod, and provides a more solid locked-in connection for the attached BlackBerry than the pod does.
