Default Slow Email on Bold

Please Login to Remove!

I am on O2 in the UK. I use GMail as my primary account.

I've had a few different blackberries in the past - but on vodafone. And was always hugely impressed by how quick the email arrived (eg if I placed a bid on eBay - I would hear the beep on my blackberry within 2 seconds).

However, I find my new Bold on O2 is a bit intermittent. Sometimes it can take a few minutes and up to 10 or 15 min, for an email to arrive at my blackberry (I can see the email in my GMail account via a web-browser). However, at other times it is almost instantaneous.

What could be causing this delay? Is it the Blackberry server that O2 is running? (I have the same experience on 3G or WiFi and browsing is fine - so I assume its not the network bandwidth/connectivity).

Must likley the delay is somewhere in the O2 towers or BB server.

Generally 15 minutes is the standard. If you are on BIS, RIM polls your email accounts every 15 minutes and pushes what it finds to your device. RIM will then repoll in 2-3 minutes. If something is found, that is sent and 3 minute cycles begins again. However, if no mail is present, the servers will poll again in 15 minutes. That is just the way it works.

BES should send email as soon as it arrives at the server.

Gmail and Yahoo might be faster.

I think Gmail is definitely faster and almost instantaneous - or at least it was when I was on vodafone. Its quite random on O2, however. Last night it took over an hour to get one email on my Blackberry! Has anyone else had similiar problems with O2? Should I call their support guys?

Have you tried re-sending your service books. With Gmail on POP it should be almost instant.

well im recieving instinct emails from everybody except from myspace it takes awhile.
i dont think its the device, its your email provider. Maybe Gmail is doing some maintenance and the server is slower temporarily.

I've tried that yesterday morning - and in the last 24 hours its been a lot better. Mainly instant email but occassional delays are much shorter than before.

Thanks. But not sure if you read my posts above - I'm already using gmail but it hasn't been instant - hence the reason for this thread.

What I found is deleting the account, then adding it back helps. I just tested mine and from pressing send on my work email, it was 65 seconds before it arrived on my blackberry. What Dubdub said applies to general pop mail but a lot of the larger providers, google, yahoo, msn, godaddy, etc. have instant email. Too bad it didn't sync like BES does.

The problem is that sometimes gmail seems to "hang" and I dont receive mails for hours until I get a second mail which then triggers the push of the first alond with the second mail.

Red face o2 gmail problem

Hi

I have been having the exact same problem o2 gmail

In addition I also have a google hosted domain email address which has been affected too. This leads me to believe it is a o2/google problem.

Until now the emails have been arriving on the berry before it turns up anywhere else.

I have "fixed" it (time will tell for sure) by
deleting the account from 02email.co.uk
pushing the service books (i.e. with it no longer existing)
deleting activation messages from berry
rebooting the phone (using quickpull or battery pull)
adding the account back to o2email (whilst waiting for phone to restart )
Resending service books

Seems to be okay, for now

Default broken again

Hi

I thought stuff was fixed, but no

If I send emails from my google apps domain to my googlemail account, things work fine.

But other (i.e. real and genuine) emails is very erratic

What OS is anyone having this problem using?

I am on 4.6.0.217 (although the problem existed before this OS version)

Has nothing to do with the OS. In fact it has not even something to do with the device: Its when the IMAP Google connection to the BB NOC is interrupted.

Whenever you get a mail in google, google will alert the RIM servers. When this connection is interrupted there is obviously no notification and the mail is not pushed.

I had a similiar problem to you guys on O2 with gmail - as suggested above, resending the service books has fixed the problem for me - been fine now for a couple of months. Although, I do occassionally get the odd email a bit delayed - but at this point it just a very small annoyance!

Default same here in US

This issue seems to apply to NSA/AT&T as well. I'm a hearing impaired user who just upgraded from the solid BB 8800 to the Bold running OS x.167. The email method of communication it by far the best for me next to IM. With the test emails sent to both google mail and BIS mail accounts, the BIS account always push thru with the second while google mail account (IMAP & POP) falling behind an average of 4 minutes. Would removing the google IMAP setup entirely speed it up?

PS: TIP: write your reply and copy/paste to the thread. The original reply got lost during the posting

We need a srike-thru in the fonts section too...lol

I see this on T-Mobile UK. I think it's worse when RIM's infrastructure (or Gmail's) get busy, as it's generally better in the UK morning (small hours in the US)

Im on Tmobile also, but not using gmail but an email from my home ISP (tesco.net).
Sometimes it will be relatively quick and at others it takes a while.
then again, I mostly get spam and not anything important, so i think "wow email" and then it turns out to be something I have to delete anyway haha

I think that will have been integrated differently as Tesco isn't one of the ISPs for which you're supposed to get a true push like experience.

View Document

For Tesco, I would expect the BB BIS service to poll for email every 15mins, reducing that time temporarily if mail starts to be collected.

With Gmail and a few others it's *supposed* to be near instant.
