Default Bold "price-drop" in the near future?

Please Login to Remove!

With AT&T contract, this phone is $100 more than the iPhone ($299 after rebate).

Best-Buy of Canada just lowered their price by $100 less (with contract).

Walmart (USA) now offers the phone for FREE (with a high-minute plan).

Amazon is discounting to $149 (after rebate & mid-sized plan).

Newegg is selling for $199 (after plan & rebate).

A few other 3rd party online sites are doing similar.

AT&T HOWEVER, WON'T PRICE-MATCH (REMAINS AT $299 AFTER REBATE).

The once-a-year holiday season is approaching (people are shopping for deals).

Also, Verizon is releasing their BB STORM in 5 days (competition for At&T).

Anyone have any feedback on if AT&T will drop their Bold price in the near future.

Seems like THIS WEEK would be a prime time to match all those other sources!

It would be foolish for them to miss the boat. Comments?

This phone does not even fall into the same class as the iPhone and I really wish people would stop trying to pricematch it with the iPhone.

Wirelessly posted (troydbrown is Chad!)

ATT stopped price matching those places because they are dropping the price too much. The lower tha price to you the longer it takes for the customer to become profitable.

I think att will drop the price before long. Once they have sold through all the remaining 8820's

The Bold is selling well currently so that may factor into it as well undoubtedly

In my case I didn't think pricing was bad.

I bought it directly at an ATT store and it was $299 with new contract, plus another $100 mail in rebate, then I sold my old 8300 for $130.

So:

$299
-$100
-$130
_______
$69 for this rocking phone!

i think you ment:
399
-100
-130

Thats how it should be, in att stores its 400 w/ 100 rebate.

I did the same thing also...

$399
-100
-200 (Sold my curve and all accessories on Craigslist)
99$ phone is not bad.

It will never drop the price for retail! Adding tax and shipping cost then I will never be able to buy a Bold!

Nope, I said exactly what I meant, because that is the price I paid.

The morning they were released I walked into the AT&T store I always go to, they only had 20 bolds and I told them I wanted one. They sold it to me for $299 plus another $100 off via the mail in rebate.

Sweet deal, huh!

Long, long, long time AT&T customer so maybe that played a role in the price I got...I don't know, but I wasn't about to complain.

higher revenue customers generally get VIP discounts when extending their contracts with carriers.

amount of time with the company rarely falls into importance, yearly revenue earnings are the ticket

In Canada with Rogers, it was introduced at $399 w. a year contract.
then it dropped to $299
It is now $199 with a 3 year contract.

Some ATT stores sell it for $299-$100 rebate like Magnum said. Here's what I see: most existing customers don't change carriers, they just get a phone upgrade every 2 years and keep paying. Great. But where a carrier increases bucks is by getting people to jump ship, usually because they have a cool new phone (Bold, iPhone). They want to offer these people the best deal on the phone because they want them the most. But they can't offer them a better deal than their trueblue customers can they? That would tick them off. I jumped ship once years ago because the carrier I was with was offering theservice for less per month to new people than I was paying. That sort of practice died pretty quickly. But online vendors can do what ATT really wants to do but can't: Lure in other carriers' folks for a 2 year $4,000 phone contract.
