Default BlackBerry Bold Video/MP4 Experiment

Please Login to Remove!

I am posting this in the Bold forum (and not the Media forum) because I require assistance specifically from Bold users.

I have determined that the media player with OS Versions 4.3 and prior have no difficulty playing MP4 Video files, both with and without audio tracks - in both regular, and full screen modes. I have tested this on several devices with OS Versions 4.3 and prior.

With OS Version 4.5, the MP4 file that DOES have the audio track plays perfectly - in both regular, and full screen modes.

However, OS Version 4.5 has difficulty with the MP4 file that does NOT have an audio track. It will play for a while and then eventually it will hang the media player. When one attempts to switch to full screen mode, the full menu will not display as a portion of it is hidden under the video display itself.

I am curious to see if this behavior is also present with the media player included in the Bold's OS Version 4.6.

To that end, I have made 2 short video files - one with an audio track, and one without an audio track.

If any Bold users would care to download these two short video files and attempt to play them on their Bold - in both regular and full screen modes - and report their findings back here, I would be indebted.

Here are the files.

MP4 Video File - WITH Audio
MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service
(6.39mb)

MP4 Video File - WITHOUT Audio
MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service
(6.89mb)

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

When I have gotten results from Bold users, I'll try the same experiment with Storm users.

I just tried both files on the Bold I bought on the 4th of November and they both played as expected with no anomolies. I did notice the naming convention you used is backwards. The "WITH Audio" has no audio and the other one does.

LOL Sorry 'bout that.

The file with no audio still played in full screen mode? That's good to know, for my future Bold purchase.

I don't know why the 4.5 media player is so finicky, it's frustrating.

Thanks for letting me know.
