OS: 9000 4.6.0.331/4.6.0.190 (Multilanguage) -
11-22-2008, 12:30 AM
New OS for the 9000 from AVEA.
This OS will load to ANY carrier's 9000 model by following the instructions below.
(Multilanguage version)
Details
BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.6.0.331 (Multilanguage)
Package Version: 4.6.0.331
Applications: 4.6.0.190
Software Platform: 4.0.0.172
File name: 9000M_PBr4.6.0_rel331_PL4.0.0.172_A4.6.0.190_AVEA. exe
File size: 93.55MB
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...F22A6C2A830A17
1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

It works with 4.7 but I find the phone doesn't stay in 3G where with .185 that was never an issue.

I hope this is less buggy than the OS that shipped with my at&t version.
4.6.0.167
I've never had a BB crash so much. I started with the 957 then > 7100 > 8700 > 8100 > 8310 > 9000
It crashed within 10 minutes. Went to download twitterberry and when I was presented with the "Download" button the screen turned white and only a battery pull fixed it. On the way home (same day) was listening to a podcast on it and the device was unresponsive but the podcast continued--a battery pull fixed it. Viigo updates once and then never does again until I pull the battery or do a alt + shift + del.
It seems with each new device crashes happen more an more. I can't recall my 957 ever crashing, my 7100 maybe a couple of times, my 8700 once or twice and my pearl just a few. My 8310 crashed a couple of times per month. And I'm a pretty heavy user and install a lot of apps.

I have .190 when it was in beta, and when I installed this to my computer and plugged in my phone, DM said that it was a downgrade. How annoying.

Just got my Bold about a week ago so....
Installed it and I hope it's less buggy.
Still getting the java error on boot though. Must be some sort of application permission thing.

I couldn't install this update with 4.7 either. I don't know the reason, it just didn't work. I had to reinstall DM 4.6.

Is there anything new that would require re-sending the service books? I know when I upgraded my friend's Curve to 4.5, we needed to resend his service books so he could get HTML email and such.

I tested the beta .190 briefly. One thing I noticed, was that when it came to the GPS with the BB maps it was way off the one time I looked at it.
That combined with the fact that it doesn't work with MS live search raises question marks for me, but oh well.

I have 4.7 installed too and it wouldn't load. I just used the Loader.exe program in the same directory as the vendor.xml file is stored and it worked like a champ!

this is the 2nd time I installed 190. The first time (beta) I didn't have much luck. Battery life bad, no 3G, no picture thumb nails.
It's still too early to see if any of these things will improve. I know for sure I'm having the same problem with the thumb nails. Anyone know how to fix this?
thanks

I been running it for a little over 2 weeks and it drops a lot less calls. The .167 did, memory leak is a little better but not by much. It still boggs down every once in a while and odd thing when I have 1-2 other apps other the roblock.
Battery life I find is better been watching a lot more movies and do a lot more broswing. Moved at the begining of the month and its a new place and cable or internet won't be up for another month still. I still have to charge it once maybe twice a day which is about the same as before the only difference is I set my network to 3G instead of 2G/3G.

I installed .190 today (had been running .185 previously). I lost my picture thumbnails this time around. For the non-locked OEM photos I copied out the photos, deleted and recopied back in which fixed the thumbnails for those photos. The stock OEM photos however no luck with getting the thumbnails back.
Other than that seems to be no difference to .185 however it's only been a few hours.
Ratnamg - how do you edit the .alx file to unlock the additional two themes? Thanks in advance....

To edit the blackberry.alx file, you cut all instances of _vendorID="115" or whatever number appears between the quotes. There are a few of them. That's it. Make sure you leave the carat intact at the end of each line on the right. That way it loads all themes, regardless of whether it's ATT, TIM, Orange, etc.
This time around, with the Bold, I haven't found any theme that I like better than the ATT, except maybe the Orange. They all have the same folders from which you may want to move some icons. Of course, you can see the BB Maps icon with the non-ATT themes. There are some other minor differences.

on At&T USA site, it still lists .167 as the latest device os.
Is it safe to update to the .190?

Does anyone know if the AVEA .190 has East Asian language support? I upgraded to TIM (Italy) .185 and can no longer read Korean or Chinese.
Unless I've missed something, none of the Asian carriers seem to have .185 rolled out just yet.

This is a "Multilanguage" OS, which does not include the East Asian or CJK (Chinese Japanese Korean) language modules.

It's never 100% safe. The upgrade process backs your data up, so you will have something to revert to. Many people on this site update whenever a new OS is released. If there are problems, you will probably find the solution on this forum.
I am on AT&T, and running .190 Beta without any issues.

Bold laggish after reset/battery pull out. -
11-23-2008, 05:18 AM
I've upgraded my Bold from the original .162 to .190 just yesterday. The only issues that I had with .162 was that it was freezing up for 2-3 sec. almost always after I hit the sent button when sending SMS, the same thing was happening when I selected say music or something from the media menu but this time for about 5 seconds. The device crashed on me about twice.
Now with the .190 it becomes after reset/battery pull out very laggish almost unusable for about 30 minutes, when I move around the menu the cursor doesn't move smoothly but jumps and it's really difficult to select something. Everything is fine after half an hour or so... The web browser is much better in this build (the rendering) majority of my favorite sites/pages display now correctly and look better than on opera mini 4.1

Thanks KenV... I edited the blackberry.alx file prior to upgrading and can now see themes from ATT, Orange, Silver, Telstra, TIM & T-Mobile.
Why do you prefer ATT to Orange? They all look the same to me on the preview screen, other than the background image. I am reluctant to load them all for feer of mucking up the order of icons etc... which probably sounds a bit lazy!
So, do you mind please letting us know what you like/dislike between ATT, Orange, Silver etc?

Thank you Kenv.
I went ahead and edited the .alx file. Once complete what do I need to do from there sychronize, back up, etc? I apologize in advance for the elementary questions.
Thank you - Andrew
