That depends on if the BB had an IT policy

If the IT policy is set to require a Password you wont be able to turn it off unless you search here for how to remove the IT policy ( big pain )

you can check the status of the password and IT policy in Settings / Options Security options

All this has been covered here DOZENS of times

You could also Google it

I had the same problem, you can't remove the password from the device if it was set by enterprise security policy
here is what you need to do to remove the password. follow the direction step by step, it worked for me

Also, you might verify that the media card isn't set to encrypt. If it is, the password enable/disable dropdown becomes locked on "enable" and the only way to unlock the dropdown is to remove encryption from the card.

That little "feature" only took me a few days of hair pulling to figure out.

Wow! Thanks for that tidbit. I was able to wipe the IT policy by using JL_Cmder, but still couldn't get rid of the password prompt. If it wasn't for this post I may not have ever figured it out. Thanks!
