I never knew they were different. This is a dev device I got from a friend at RIM so it's one of the originals that were made in Canada 10 blocks from here.

Not a bad concept but how safe is it during an accident? It looks like it would be very dangerious

Its like every other window mounted device. All the other devices just hold by the side so I would imagine they would fail from the same faults

I was just thinking...By putting the magnets on the inside of the battery door, you're trusting that the plastic clips on the battery door will hold the weight of the device. If there was a way you could attach the magnets to the device itself on the inside, that would relieve the stress off the battery door, and instead the device would support itself.

There are no magnets inside the device only steel washers. But I see what you are saying I can't imagine there is that much stress from the weight.. Because I work in IT I wanted no magnets on me so the solution I had to come up with had to involve no magnets in the device only on the holder.

It's a small place called KW Surplus in Kitchener there are tons of surplus stores in TO I would imagine they would have something the same there some 10 cheap mount that you could mod to put a magnet in it.
