Default Images in emails

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

Have already posted this question but I cant find it anywhere!

My BB 9000 does not download images when I get an email - I have to click within the email and select download images.

I have download images automatically set to yes in the settings so I cant understand why its not doing it?

I am running .190.

Thanks,

James

That is the way it is for all of us. RIM's implementation of HTML email is not what many of us thought it would be. All they did was make it an allowable option. You still have to ask for your images every single stinkin' time. I had hoped that we would be able to turn it on and simply get all images on every email. Not so. Maybe on a future revision of the OS, but for now we have to ask for images each time.

How annoying! What's the point of the get images automatically option I wonder?

Ah well, as you said - maybe it will be fixed in a future software update...

Thanks for the quick reply,

James

I just recently upgraded from the curve 8320 to the bold. I was able to get html emails before with my curve but now I don't even have that option. I tried resending service books multiple times already to no avail. Any ideas?

The only way to get the in html before was with a program like BlackberrySmart or Empower. They are third-party html email viewers, the only option for html email in an OS below 4.6. When you upgraded your BB you didn't drop your Blackberry Data Plan, did you? If you're on a corporate BES they may have an IT policy against html email.

let me ask you this... if you open Outlook on your computer and you have images that are pulled form an external site what happens? You have to ask it to download them... just like the Bold. If the images are embedded in the message meaning they are sent as part of the message you will see that in Outlook they will appear, on the Bold if set to Auto download then it will do the same.

What you have to understand is that when you start pulling images from external sources it can create a security risk for your email address. All it takes is downloading a 1x1 pixel picture and you have just confirmed that your email address is real cause someone opened it and requested pictures from their server with your ID embedded in the request string. This is why all security conscious devices do this by default and by design. It allows you to look at the message before deciding to have it go out to the net and let them know you have opened it. If it is SPAM then hey you can delete it and no harm done and the spammer will never know you opened it. If its not SPAM then you can download the messages knowing the risk.

The Bold is a enterprise level device and its first concern is security not convince.

If you had 4.5 OS you have the option of "get images" when you open up the menu and view the email the way it was intended. I don't have that "get images" option at all. I still have the same plan and I'm on BIS.

I understand all the security risks posed by html email and we don't allow it in our company via group policy. Trust me I use that line to all our users "security before convenience." I was just wondering why that option disappeared from the Bold. I just got it 4 days ago and have the same plan as before. All I've done with the device so far was upgrade to .185.

I know it does depend on how you get your email I know the BIS did not use to support HTML and only BES did so it depends on your environment. I believe both have it now. Im not sure why you don't see the option.

This may sound dumb, but are you opening the menu after you open your email? There is an option in the list that says "Get Images" which requires an answer as to whether you want to risk exposing yourself all over the world before downloading the image(s). That's how it works here on .185.

Yes I do open the menu but the option of "get images" is gone. I'm running .185 too. All I can think of was service books but I did resend it. I used to have that option on my 8320 before I upgraded to the bold. On a sidenote everyone has thk2 loaded but mine won't for some reason although I see the alx and cod file. I think I'm just an unlucky bastard lol.
