If your IT guy's can't straighten this out for you I suggest you do a full wipe of the device, (back it up first) then once it is done reloading everything connect to DM and reactivate your BES account. I would almost guarantee this will get you back to where you want to be. I have done this several times as many different OS upgrades have messed my device up and the only way for me to get it back to working order was to wipe it and reload from scratch. This is kind of last ditch but it isn't a big deal as DM will reactivate your BES account which is the biggest pain when you wipe a device. As long as you have setup DM with your BES account it should work no problem as I have done it several times. If it doesn't work then I would return the device for a new one.

That is definitely a weird one. One thing you could try to do is go into your service books again and Delete your Desktop [CMIME] service book, wait a minute or even try a battery pull and then go back into the service books, press the menu key and select undelete. See it that makes a difference.

thank you both. our tech guys are pretty amazing and whether it's a device wipe or something else, i expect they'll resolve quickly. i was hopeful of resolving by myself to avoid wasting their time (they take care of many others besides me), especially since my faux paus started this. will report later and i appreciate everyone's time, thoughts and suggestions. i'll strive to be a more of a contributor than a mooch later! thx again

HOORAY. our it dept fixed. there was a BES setting awry (not sure how) but via Desktop Manager we changed / simplified to Folder Redirection to include Inbox. that fixed the BES messages not forwarding. for the missing Messages icon in the default theme, well, our tech expert then used the Reset Theme Default (a suggestion made earlier), and then the Messages icon reappeared on handheld's desktop!!! THANKS to all again
