Default weird one / sheepish

Please Login to Remove!

[here's a sheepish message i sent our helpdesk today. no matter what i tried i couldn't get Show All or anything else to bring back the main Messages icon like i had it. i thought the temporary themes fix might give someone here an idea what i've done wrong and how to fix. any top of head thoughts/reactions gratefully received. thx]

i'm sheepish asking for help on this, but at my wit's end so here goes

until earlier today, my first three blackberry desktop icons were:

Messages (ie, BES work email), [attblackberry.email.adddress] (BIS), [personal@email.address] (BIS)

so far so good.

for no reason i can explain, i Hid[] the Messages icon, leaving only the two BIS accounts on desktop. every attempt to read manual and restore Messages failed. help with 1st, 2nd and 3rd level at&t blackberry (including battery pull) failed. they even escalated me to research in motion. that person was going to back up my data, even wanted me to download a new desktop manager (4.7?) at which point i expressed hesitation..

then the RIM guy had another idea. he had me go into the device options and change the theme from defauly (Precision AT&T) to the other one (Precision Silver). when i changed to Precision Silver, all three email accounts show fine. (but when i change back to Precision AT&T, only the two BIS accounts remain, requiring tedious drilldown to find firm messages (by viewing the Inbox folder UNDER Saved Messages folder)

the Precision Silver theme ahas a pretty clouds/mountain scheme that i suppose i can live with, and i'll of course need to stay with it for now, but it would be great if anyone could help me fix whatever i have broken with my Precision AT&T so that i can have all three email accounts showing on the desktop under Precision AT&T again

an help appreciated, and i am so sorry for the trouble created my brainlessness earlier today. th

thx mr. c. i experimented with that, toggling through all three choices (Theme Controlled, Combined, and Separate). none of the choices brought back Messages to my desktop. i re-set this to Combined because that's where it was before

ps, THIS sounds similar. i didn't wait 5 minutes when i tried battery pull. maybe will try that now

If I understand it right, you hid the "messages" icon and now want it to show again??? Am I right...if so do this

From the icon screen, press the menu button, choose show all
Now your messages icon will be faded...move the cursor over the icona, press the menu button, choose unhide, press the menu button, uncheck show all.

You should have your messages icon back.

Did you look in any folders that you have??? I had accidentally moved one of icons into the "docs to go" folder and couldn't find it for days...didn't realize it was a folder to move things into....

i've looked and looked and cannot find a Messages icon in any of the folders showing (grayed or otherwise) on desktop after i use Show All.

the closest is Saved Messages. if i open Saved Messages, then menu bar, then View Folder, then i can see Inbox (misplaced under Cabinet) and if i click on highlighted Inbox i get to messages which ordinarily were under the now missing-in-action Messages desktop icon. the only way i can find to get Messages icon back to desktop is by changing Theme back to Precision Silver (clouds/mountain)

PS, for sake of completeness... longer (ie almost 5 minute) battery pull did not change anything for me. thx

I can hide/unhide my messages icon all day long. It's very likely a theme issue.

If you know you definately use the "hide" command, well... yopu know what I'm going to suggest (as already has been).
Yes, I know you've looked. Look again, if you ARE sure you hid it.

definitely remember using Hide command. i re-established Show All (in the default theme) and looked in every folder. the only place i see Messages is under Applications / Search but the Messages thereunder has a default check to the left and i don't think this is the missing icon i'm looking for. Messsages as an icon simply seems no longer to be found using Precision AT&T as the theme; however, when i switch over to Precision Silver it's right there like there is no problem whatsoever

thanks to all for trying to help. sorry you have so little on this end to work with!

There a way to reset theme defaults from the theme menu. You may want to try this to see if it fixes your problem. If you did a bunch of customization it will be lost, but it might be worth a try. This helped me once with a missing icon. Good luck.

thx thielsa for the additional idea to try. yes, it did mess up my fonts, but i was glad to have something else to try. unfortunately, using the restore default with the Precision AT&T theme did not restore my Messages icon to the handheld's desktop; instead, the Messages icon remains visible ONLY under Precision Silver.

this might be trying, since i now have perceived my work (BES) emails have stopped forwarding to handheld. (or perhaps i should just let our firm's techs look at it tomorrow.) i know how to go into device options, then Advanced Options, and i see Service Book, but when i open Service Book and choose menu bar, i don't see choices other than View, Delete Close

probably missing something obvious!

PS, i looked around pages 259-260 of user guide, tried to mimic instructions, but got nowhere so am thinking i'll defer to the pros at office
