Default App Error 205

Please Login to Remove!

I got a Bold the beginning of last week from Vodafone UK. I actually got it on Friday 21st and every so often, when I went to look at it, the phone would show a white screen with tiny black lettering saying APP ERROR 205 RESET. Once reset by pressing the trackball it would go to a black screen with a timer for perhaps two minutes before going through security checks etc. This gradually got more and more frequent until last Thursday in the morning alone it did it at least six times. I phoned Vodafone and apparently it was a software problem with the phone and it has now been exchanged - I got the new phone on Friday.

Everything was fine with the new Bold on Friday afternoon and yesterday (Saturday). However this morning the whole thing seems to have started again. I switched on the phone first thing and walked away. When I came back and pressed a button to illuminate the screen what should I find but error 205! I have now reset it but, in the space of half an hour its done it twice more.

Has anyone else experienced this problem as I find it hard to believe that I am unlucky enough to get two phones uniquely with the same fault. Otherwise the Bold is a fantastic phone but this problem makes it unusable.

Would appreciate any feedback or thoughts urgently.

Thanks. Chris

What apps or themes do you have installed? and what OS do you have on your Bold?

I have only had this error once after installing something which my Bold didn't like.

Thanks for your help. Not sure what the OS is, its whatever came as standard with the phone. I've only added on Google Maps and also the Marco customised "today" them that shows emails and calendar on the home screen that I found on this forum.

I did try using Google Maps earlier and twice it conked out - the screen went black and the red LED showed continuously for a few seconds before the timer started doing its thing on the white b/g and then into the security checks etc. I also noticed that the Google Maps is much slower to load on the Bold than it was on my Curve.

For the OS have a look under Options > About and note the number beginning with v4.6.0.xxx The latest from Vodafone is 4.6.0.162

Check you memory in Options > Status: File Free =
Since you only installed those 2 things, your memory shouldn't be low and by low I mean not < 20000000. This number is not fixed but it should just give you an idea. You'll notice 'File Free' number changes as you install/run apps/themes.

Some apps/themes can cause problems, so I would suggest reinstalling them and see which one is not playing nice. If for example you install something and reboot then notice a lag when using your phone, then more than likely is what you have installed is the problem or another program is breaking it if you other stuff installed.

The latest GMaps is 2.3.2, I think, which is what I have. To check for version number go to: Options > Advanced Options > Applications

The OS is indeed 4.6.0.126; memory 14451696 (should be a lot free because all I've installed is G Maps and the new "theme") and Google Maps is indeed 2.3.2.

The phone has behaved itself so far this afternoon but, particularly as this is a second device with the same problem, I'm starting to lose confidence. Very surprised that the Google Maps (which I have not tried again since this mornings "failures") takes so long to load in comparison with my Curve. I would have expected a new device like this to be quicker.

The OS you got is a rubbish one and upgrading is highly recommended. Get the latest from vodafone.

Once you downloaded and installed the new OS on your PC, follow the instructions here:

How do I upgrade the OS on my BlackBerry?

Anytime mate. Just give it a go, you'll love your Bold once it's done. If you're not sure about anything just ask.

Most kind, thank you. I do very much like the Bold and so hope to get the germlins sorted out. My main use is for email and I find the keypad a lot nicer to use than the one on the Curve.
