Default Rogers cutomer travelling to USA with Bold

Please Login to Remove!

As the title says, I will be going for a week to the USA. I normally add minutes for my voice plan for USA use (no roaming fee). I was told there is no such deal for the data plan. Is it so?

Is there another way I could do it? Can you buy a pre-paid data plan on say AT&T? I am going to Florida (Orlando).

Thank you
M.P.

Voice/roaming in the US is expensive. So you're set if you can add minutes for this. But data charges are quite modest really. If you just use it for email you probably won't mind the price. I'm trying to remember my past bills but I think $10-15 a week for quite heavy email use.

I agree. I was in Vegas during labour day. 20 minutes of voice cost me over $30. I used BBM all weekend ended up being 2mb and only $10 in charges for that.

From the Rogers web site:
=============
- Data usage is measured in the Kilobytes transmitted over the Rogers Wireless data network with usage rounded to the next full KB. 1MB = 1,024KB 1GB = 1,024 MB

- U.S. roaming is $0.006 per KB and international roaming is $0.03 per KB when you subscribe to a Data plan. If you subscribe to a Flex rate data plan, the U. S. roaming is $3 per MB and international roaming is $0.03 per KB". If you subscribe to unlimited on-device browsing rate, both the U. S. roaming and international roaming is $0.03 per KB.
==============

That makes US roaming $6 / MB on a regular data plan, not bad for text-only emails. But don't do much web browsing or use mapping apps that download map data or you'll run up a horrendous bill. Fortunately, BIS won't pump out email attachments without your OK.

When I go to the US, I go into my email options (OS 4.6) and turn off HTML and turn off "download images automatically". In that state, 1MB is a lot of emails.

Best regards,

Carl
