Default Switching to AT&T - HELP

Please Login to Remove!

Okay I want the new blackberry bold and my wife wants one of the Samsung flips. The bold is $40 cheaper online.

I need to port both numbers from Verizon so I called AT&T sales to ask how that would work. Their web site states about 3 hours to port numbers.

The sales person said it takes 7-10 business days!!!! And they don't ship any phones until the port is complete - said they couldn't ship unless it had a number associated with each phone.

Someone please tell me this is absolutely untrue!

They can set up the phones with temp numbers until the port is complete. 7-10 days is rediculous. As long as both accounts (VZW and AT&T) are in your name, it takes just a couple hours.

Thanks. When you order online, there's a process in checkout dealing with number porting if you select that option. I would think what you said makes sense. Isn't that what happens when you do the sale/port in a AT&T store?

Yes, but if you do it online, it may not be processed right away. That's probably why they told you 7-10 days. If I were you, I would go into the store and do it.

Okay thanks. Guess saving $40 is not worth being without a working phone (with my number).

What do you mean $40?? It's the same either way. $399 with a 2-year contract plus a $100 mail-in rebate.

Not at the AT&T corp stores I visited today in two different malls. Price was $439.99 less $100 mail-in rebate - price $339.99

Am I missing something?

That's strange, I was just at a corporate store in my area and it was $399.99 before the rebate. Are you sure that was a corporate store and not a "autorized retailer"?

Yep both were corporate stores.

But after i called a few other corp. stores they told me the reason for the $40 difference was the bold they sell in the store includes a 2GB memory card...... Please!!!! You can get that online for less then $10. I already have an 8GB micro card waiting to install.

In any case both stores I called told me they would sell me the bold without the memory card for the same price as online $399.99 - mystery solved.

Default Porting numbers

I had switched to AT&T a couple of months back. They had to port my number from T-Mobile. They said porting would take 4-5 hours but it was actually done in 2 hours flat. Best to go to a corporate store. Btw, evenat the store, they will to try to sucker you into buying all sorts of stupid packages with memory cards, Bluetooth headsets, etc. Avoid the hard sell and buy the phone only. You can buy any accessories you want later and get the brands you want at better prices elsewhere. Can you believe it, the guy was trying to sell me an 8GB memory card for $90! He looked shocked when I told him that Amazon was selling the 16GB memory card for $66!

Yea I hear you. Why would anyone pay retail for accessories when you can get them so much cheaper.

I just switched from Verizon to AT&T to pick up the Bold. I ordered the phone on line and when I received it in the mail , I called the AT&T provided number to activate the phone and in that process , the porting of my phone number from Verizon to AT&T took place. Very quick and very painless.

You can get a deal with a corp. store. I moved a 4 line family plan from TMO to ATT last week and picked up new Bolds for $150 each ($500 out the door for 2, less 2 x $100 mail in rebates) and a free 8310 for line # 3 (line # 4 was just a SIM plus a freebie Nokia phone).... I showed them the Amazon online price of $150 for the BB9000 and they basically matched it (with the slight hassle of the 2 $100 Visa cards I will have to use to pay a bill with later on to recoup the deal).... and with my premier account they waived the activations. YMMV. I am sure others are getting even better deals out there - you just need to be willing to walk out and go to another corp. store if one doesn't work out. The rep. used some reason code level 8 and typed in "match online price" on the Opus system in the store... I watched him do it but this probably only makes sense to ATT store employees anyway... I didn't care so long as I got the price I wanted. Anyway, happy to be a new BB owner - great forum here! Thanks... I am learning a lot (already flashed to .190).
