Bold 9000 internet problems HELP
Hey there,

I recently bought a Bold 9000. Unfortunately I'm experiencing some problems. The Browser does not seem to work. The wi-fi connection works, it connects to the router and the network name shows in the display. So far so good... The problem starts when I try to use the browser. If i open the browser en enter an URL it just keeps on loading, but it doesn't show the website. It just keeps on saying: (bezig met aanvragen: it's dutch) in the bottom of the screen. The loading bar compleets but nothing happens. I've tried on different networks but the same thing happens. The strange thing is when I try to browse with WAP mode (so actually pay for surfing) it does the same thing, no website appears. I'm starting to wonder if there's something wrong with my device.. :? Any suggestions? Please help me..

For WAP browsing you probably need to set up TCP with the correct Vodafone settings. That would be in Options > Advanced Options > TCP.

Vodafone (NL)
Gateway IP:
Port: 9201
username: vodafone
Password: vodafone

Vodafone (Spain)
Gateway IP:
Port: 9201
username: wap@wap
password: wap125

Vodafone (UK)
Gateway IP:
Port: 9201
username: [email address]
password: user

Vodafone (New Zealand)
Gateway IP:
PORT: 9201
USER: <empty>
PASS: <empty>

Do you have a Blackberry data plan? No browsing without one. A regular smart phone data plan is no good on Blackberrys.

Ehm, well I just bought the phone and did not install any software. I just switch the device on and tried to use the Wi-Fi mode. I'm not planning to use the WAP option because it's expensive. I just tried it to see if the browser would work in this mode. But I DO want to use the wi-fi mode to browse online. So do I need a 'data plan' for this? I don't know what this 'data plan' is.. I'm not so good in this 'technical' stuff.. So my problems remains, the browser doesn't work. You suggest i need a Data Plan for using wi-fi and browsing / using mobile internet? Exactly what is a data plan and how will it work; will it solve my problem? Thanks in advance!

edit: I see a data plan is like a second bundle for using the net where you pay for. But I googled, and I thought that Using WI-FI is for free right? You don't have to pay for using wi-fi. So on the Bold, the wi-fi option connects to my modem so I'm connected to the internet, then I should be able to use the browser right?

You need a BB data plan for the BB browser to work and perhaps to be able to surf using WiFi. Some carriers have forced it that way as well. Might try to see if you can configure OperaMini, but you will need a data plan of some sort for that also.

Thanks for your reply's. Maybe it's best if I contact my provider (Vodafone) tommorow and ask my question to them. I went to the Vodafone store but I have to say that the people that work there have no knowledge what so ever of Blackberry phones.

I really don't get it ??? I called Vodafone blackberry service and they told me that I SHOULD be able to use the Wi-Fi option and browse the net WITHOUT a data-plan. I asked the guy why i can connect to the modem but why my browser doesn't work and he told me I probably had the wrong configuration in my mobile device. What am I supposed to do, I almost tried all possible things.

If i go to: Set Up Wi-Fi, I pick up a network, make connection, after this is go to: "Push Button Setup". It says: Wi-Fi Setup in progress... Time remaining, and it just counts down to 0 and says: Provisioning session expired. You can go back and try again. When I try using the browser, the loading bar (which says "requesting") keeps on loading and the website does not appear. What is wrong? :(

Dude jus get Data Plan, its gonna solve all your problems. Wi-Fi is not availeble everywhere you want it to be.

Data Plan is your answer, jus cough up like 20 to 30 bucks per month and youre all good. IMHO.

Yeah I'm going to get a Data plan soon.... Anyway I've solved my problem, the browser configuration was wrong. It's fixed now. :)
