I wont get into HOW to do this, Ive figured it out. But:

1. are there any downfalls to debranding? (issues etc?)

2. somene said you void the warranty, but cant you just reload the ATT VSM and reflash the ATT OS and no one would be the wiser?

@stulaw! There are no downfalls besides warranty and Yes you can load an att vsm.

It has been stated many times, DO NOT post instructions on how to (or how to find out how to) debrand the device. It is against forum rules...

When you debrand the device, you lose the Mass Storage feature that allows your PC to see the internal memory and microSD card as drives. There is a software .bat file that will fix this, but I cannot point you to it, per forum policy.

What is it with these people... how freaking hard is it to A) follow the simple forum rules by not posting certain phrases or directions and B) to do some basic research and figure everything out for yourself just as everyone else in this thread seems to have done???

Obviously, anyone interested in debranding knows the consequences may be a Brickberry! Why does this forum not allow the posting of any USEFUL information?? Are you too scared RIM is gonna come get you and you will wet your panties?

If you believe in the (wrong) philosophy of intellectual property then you are not a fone hacker. You can't be both!! You are just another puppet consumer stooge existing in their world to purchase crappy midi ring tones!

If these same people had it THEIR way you would pay every time you sent an email and every time you logged on a network anywhere! They wouldn't even let you change your wallpaper! Or at least it would need their corporate logo on it!!

So WHAT is the purpose of this forum then???????

PS - **** intellectual property and anyone who supports it!!!!!!

I would like to see this guy create just one program, try to sell it, find it for free on some "intellectual property free" website, and THEN see what his take on the subject is.

$1,000,000,000,000,000,000 says he suddenly supports intellectual property rights

People like him make me laugh. *saunters off chuckling*

Default Intellectual property or customer abuse

It is ATT (not the developer of IP) not RIM (the developer) that is causing users to unbrand their phones. Only ATT disabled network mode selection to force users onto their 3G network which is not ready. It is clear that the Bold has a huge problem switching between 3G and 2G causing "failed call", dropped calls and poor battery life. Everyone I know in NY has huge problems with dropped calls.
When I bought my Bold from ATT, they didn't tell me that they would force me to use only 3G. iPhone users are not prevented from switching. Given these facts, it is hard to blame us for utilizing available methods to obtain the software that RIM developed for us.
RIM is a great company and the Bold is a great product. I just want to use their device as it was intended. I should be able to select the best network for me until the ATT 3G network is built out or until RIM solves the 2G/3G switching issue.

there is a way around the unrecognized microsd internal memory issue after debranding. no additional software needed. but need additional click when you plug into the bold to get the microsd and the internal memory recognized by your pc or mac

So i have just completed the "process," and surfing on EDGE now is faster than 3G. WTF AT&T lol! Loading up the crackberry forums takes about 2s on EDGE now, and about 5-6 on 3G.

The software used and the process are not discussed on this forum. You will need to go elsewhere.
