Default OS: 9000 4.6.0.365/4.6.0.216 (Multilanguage) - 01-07-2009, 03:10 PM

New OS for the 9000 from AVEA
This OS will load to ANY carrier's 9000 model by following the instructions below.
(Multilanguage version)

Software For BlackBerry® Bold (TM) 9000 smartphone

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.6.0.365 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.6.0.365
Consisting of:

* Applications: 4.6.0.216
* Software Platform: 4.0.0.183
* File name: 9000M_PBr4.6.0_rel365_PL4.0.0.183_A4.6.0.216_AVEA. exe
* File size: 95.83MB

MultiLanguage version here:
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...F22A6C2A830A17

East Asian language version link here:
(File name: 9000jEastAsia_PBr4.6.0_rel365_PL4.0.0.183_A4.6.0.2 16_Hutchison.exe)
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...2BAA6EBC8B872D

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

I wonder why AVEA stuck with .216 for their official release. Not sure why they didn't opt for .217.

Scarlett O'Hara: I can't think about that right now. If I do, I'll go crazy. I'll think about that tomorrow.

Anyone know if BT DUN on a Mac works with .216? My experience is that it doesn't work with .217 but does with .190.

hi guys... i wonder if u can explain something to me...
i dont get it,,,,
every1 is saying that once u update the OS u must wipe device, lose everything . reactivate and such....
its been twice now (first 168->190 now 190->216)
that i did this process of uninstalling the old OS file from the computer, backup my device, installing the new one . connecting the device to the comp again and auto update screen would pop up...
i;ve upgraded and it saved everything.,
including the BES settings and the BIS settings and all my programs and themes , everything.
no need to reactivate or enterprise activate...
im on atnt network... with bb bold now ruining 216....
how can it be?
or that is the way it should be and im just imagining things (im new to BB)

To answer my own question ... NO BT DUN on a Mac does not work with .216. Stay with .190 if you need BT DUN capability.

I find my phone reception went WAY downhill with this version. Areas where it worked fine with .190 now dropping repeatedly; some sections of highway that previously had signal now stuck on "Searching For Network". Anyone else experience this?

I would also like some reviews from people who upgraded from .190. I don't want to upgrade unless there's improvements... Thanks!

Disconnect the BB from the USB, and reboot both the BB and PC. Try using only loader.exe to downgrade, not opening DM. Similar to the instructions for the upgrade in the initial post here.

"every1"?

eh, I've not really noticed "any1" saying you "u must wipe the device, lose everything" just to upgrade.

And it is common that a device on a BES must be reactivated on the server.

So, it sounds like you're doing just right with it.

Until a more experienced member replies... did you consider using the "loader.exe" (see the post with the link to the new OS) instead of the DM? Don't forget about deleting the vendor file as well.

Good luck

Do you mean when the "system goes to install" the main Desktop Manager application onto your computer, or the new firmware onto the device?

Are you running XP?

.217 seems more stable for me than what .216 did, so if .217 works for you, stay with it. The annoying bug that your home screen resets after any reboot persists...hopefully that is corrected soon, unless there is some type of fix I missed, very annoying tho.

you know, other then some memory reports, i havent really read/heard anything that is leaps and bounds better or drastically improved over 190, and I havent had any serious issues with 190. so I may have to sit still on this for now. IMO it seems like I am hearing more bugs with this. I have had an occasional uncaught.exception msg, but that was easily corrected.

should I look more into .217?? or maybe wait it out longer for a possible actual surface of 224? any advice/suggestions??

Make certain that you in an area of good signal coverage AND outside with a clear view of the sky in an open area of no tall buildings.

Click Options > Advanced > GPS > Menu > Refresh GPS.

Give it up to 10 minutes to refresh, and try 2-3 times in a row.

i got some help and upgraded from .190 to .216 yesterday. i continue seeing some wi-fi instability at the house (airlink n) but it's been steady on a firm visitor lan here at the office (not sure what wifi routers they use here). not enough time to be sure but i "think" i perceive the battery is going down slower with .216. will be interested to learn others' observations

I am on BES and as Sanders said it is not unusual to need to be reactivated on the server. With my bold, I needed to be reactivated on the server for .167, but with .162, .185 and .190 it reinitialized and reactivated over the air without having the IT guys reactivate on the server. Go figure. However, if you are on BES, I would not upgrade the OS without knowing the IT people are available just in case you need to reactivate on the server.
I am upgrading to .216 now so I will see how this one goes.

I downgraded from the .217 to .214, I find the .214 more stable and less buggy, is this .216 much better than the .214 firmware? If it is then I'll change but if not I'll stick with the .214.

REFRESH GPS: you have to push the Blackberry Button (just to the left of the trackball) to see it. Then click on it. Doing so did not work for me, by the way.

Upgraded to OS .216 from .185 yesterday. Everything went smoothly. Been using it for 24 hrs now and no problem is suspected yet. New improvement is in the options such as APN etc.
Battery live is still great and the memory increases about 10 MB.

Hope this review is usefull.

Good luck
