Question few new guy questions

Please Login to Remove!

Hi guys,

A few days a go I unlocked my Bold because I still have a contract with KPN(dutch telecom provider). Since this contract will last about another 6 months I dont have a Data plan.

Now to my questions: How do I make sure I don't go on the internet that I need to pay, for and still be able to use my own wi-fi connection or Hot Spots?

Is it possible to use the things like the mail client via wi-fi? or is it only possible via the browser?

Do I need to pay for the GPS connection too?

And last but not least, how do I turn that annoying green light, that bleeps every ****ing 5 seconds, off?

I believe you need to have a data plan in order to browse the internet or check on your email. Even though you have wi-fi you still need a data plan.

To turn off the green indicator light:

Options > Screen/Keyboard > Scroll down to "LED Coverage Indicator" > Off

1) Go to Options > Mobile Network > Data Services = Off. This will ensure that you don't rack up data charges.

2) You cannot use email at all, unless you have a BB data plan. It requires connectivity to the BB network, even through WiFi.

3) GPS location is a free service, however; you need a data plan to download the map images.

4) Options > Screen/Keyboard > LED Coverage Indicator = Off

Thanks for the very quick reaction.

It's very peaceful without the Light. So there's no way to get on internet without a data plan? Before I unlocked it I could just access the internet.

Are there anymore key things I need to know?

Yes, you can get on the internet with WiFi, you just won't have email capabilities.

hmm that's strange it says something like cant connect or whatever. I didn't change anything since the unlock but the data service.

edit: here's what it says exactly :

''Can not make a connection with the internet try again later.

If you keep having this problem contact your provider''

Is your WI FI icon lit or dim? It should be lit in order to access the internet.

That's not correct. If it's lit, that means that it can access the BB network through WiFi. If it's dim, but it says your WiFi SSID at the top, then you have access to the internet, just not the BB network. If it's dim, and doesn't say the SSID at the top, then you're not connected to WiFi at all.

In the top right corner it says gprs with 5 stripes and a WI-FI symbol thats all I think the WI-Fi symbol is dim

And when i try to acces my browser it says: Can not acces the internet try again later

BTW: it keeps switching between 3G and GPRS

It will switch between 3G and gprs, cause it wont always be in a 3g area/always stay connected (mine didnt stay connected when I had it on).

If you go to manage connections ->wi-fi options -> wi-fi tools -> wi-fi diagnostics
then see what it says under "authentication".
if it says connecting to network (or something similar) etc, turn ur router off and back on, then try it.
