After connecting to wifi i am able to use browse sites like google cnn etc on my phone.. However when i try to access applications such as Facebook and Gmail downloaded on my Bold.. I recieve following message..

" You are currently on a service plan that does not support this application. Please contact your service provider for additional information or to upgrade your current service plan"

am i understanding this correctly, that i need data plan to access this applications.. it wont be accessed on wifi.. is it true ? If not whats the route to make this work.

You need a Data plan to reach Google. I think Facebook is the same. Don't use it so I am not 100% certain, but I have read a bit lately about problems with Facebook.

Yes, you need to have a data plan through your service provider in order to access them.
