Default Can connect bold to home wireless?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi there.

I am new to blackberry bold. I'm from Singapore. I got my blackberry bold as a birthday present from my gf. I was wondering if I could access internet through my home wireless network?

I tried and I got an error.

Any help on this?

Thanks in advance.

Yes you should be able to do that. I am connected to the internet now through my wifi router at home.

I think you should post some more information about the error you are seeing and exactly what you have done and are doing when you get it.

It is hard to say what problem you are having when your description is just that you are getting an error.

Hi JacobHM. Thanks for the fast reply.

I'm currently on prepaid service and not subscribed to any data plan, from which I read is required for the push mail, GPS, etc.

I have set my the following:
Quote:
manage connections -> wifi options -> Wifi selection mode -> manual
browser -> option -> brwoser configuration -> browser: hotspot browser
option -> adv options -> browser -> default browser config: Hotspot browser
The wifi icon on the top right is dim. Beside my telco name is my router name. But still can't access internet.
Get the error: unable to connect to the internet, pls try again later. If the problem persist please contact your service provider.

Yes you can access the internet via WiFi.

The Bold supports WEP / WPA-PSK (TKIP/AES) / WPA2-PSK (TKIP/AES).

To setup the WiFi, use the Set-Up Wi-Fi program that is available in the Setup folder.
If you are near the Access Point that you are setting it up for, just click "Scan for Networks". As long as the SSID is broadcasting, you should be able to see the network name. Click that, then choose the Security Type, then enter the Pre-Shared Key.

The default setting for the Browser should be fine, however if you did change it.

Options (The Icon is a spanner) -> Advanced Options -> Browser
Default browser configuration: Internet Browser
Default MDS browser configuration: Internet Browser
Default WAP browser configuration: (Depends on which company you are with for your service).

Go to Manage connections->wi-fi options->right click and go to wi-fi tools, then wi-fi diagnostics.
Under authentication, see what it says.
Mine would come up with something about the dchp, and therefore it wouldnt receive an IP address.

Turn off ur router and back on again, and see what happens.
Seems like an easy answer, but this worked for me the first time.

Hi Midnightdraven,

I have already restart my router.
Under the wifi diagnostics it stated,
Quote:
Current profile: ............
SSID: ............
AP MAC Address: ............
Security type: PSK
Local IP: blank
Signal lvl: -64dBm
Connection Data rate: 54Mbps
Status: IP address no longer valid
What does this mean.

SSID - Service Set Identifier. That's your network name. If you're getting "...." you might have your broadcasting turned off. And you're not getting a MAC address. Access the router settings from your computer. ON your address bar on your pc type in 192.168.1.1 And that brings up the router settings. Make sure SSID broadcasting is on. And if push comes to shove. Turn off your router, unplug it completely, and hold the reset button on the back of the router for 45 seconds, plug it back up, THEN turn it on. Then try to connect through WI-FI.

I have no idea about the IP address no longer valid.
If you have DCHP enabled, which most routers do by default, then it should assign an IP address that is the next one in the chain, i.e ur pc uses blah blah . 1 then the DCHP would assign the phone once connected with .2
If you dont have DCHP enabled and have had to assign to IP address to all devices, it could be that it just doesnt like it, and would need to enable DCHP.

Thanks for all the advice. After doing all the steps above, I still can't log in to my wifi. I then decided to upgrade my BBB to v4.6.0.190, and everything works now. I've learn alot from this forums.

Thanks!!

You can try Options -> Mobile Network. Change Data Services to Off When Roaming. At least this helped me resolve the same problem.

go to options - status.
under WLAN MAC:
it will show the MAC address you need to enter to your router.

It seemed ur BB can not get an IP address from ur router.

U can check ur router's configuration to sure about it is use DHCP.

Or else u need to input IP in ur bb by manual so that it can work in ur bb.
