Default I'm on Bell and I want a Bold...Can it be done.??

Please Login to Remove!

I currently am using an 8830. Great phone, great e-mail unit..blah blah.

Only issues I have is this: It does not have a camera. (and the fact that when I go to a different time zone the phone does not automatically change to the time zone that you are in and it needs to be changed manually..? Not sure if this has been fixed on the 9000 or not.?)

However the Bold's camera, and nice interface/display characteristics appeal to me. So I go ask a Bell Rep and they tell ya "sorry, we don't sell the Bold". WTF is up with that..?? One would think that RIM would want each and every new platform they design to be available to as many people as possible...hmmm maybe it's that depositry of left wing B$hit called the CRTC that is the issue..??

Anyway, political rant over...I just want to know if it is possible to bypass the monopoly Rogers seems to have here in Canada on the Bold and buy one, do what changes are required and get it activated on Bell.

If this can be done, then I would love to know how and any help would be greatly appreciated.!

Thank you,

Stk

Believe it when you see it. For now, you need to stay out of this thread.

Well now, with one being GSM and the other being CDMA..explains plenty. thanx guys...I had not thought of that.!

Damned unfortunate..but not a lot one can do at this stage...kinda like being married and knowing (after you met her), there is your true soul mate on the other side of the mirror.........ahhhh if only..!! eh?

amaserre...you mention "they" .. I am assuming you mean Bell.?

This has been discussed a lot on the forums. Basically, for the time being at least, this won't be 'fixed' on the 9000 (or any other model), because it is intended. A conscious decision was made by RIM to not have the device change times automatically based on cell tower / network time.

IIRC, the two most valid reasons I recall offhand were, 1) the havoc that automatic time zone changes can cause for calendar appointments / all day events, and 2) problems for users that live / commute in time-zone-border areas.

Until fairly recently, the BB was primarily a business device. Many of the capabilities of the BB (or incapabilities of the BB) are geared around security and business use, not consumer desires. While that certainly is changing, it won't happen overnight, nor will the focus shift away from security, reliability and business use.

I do agree with many though, in that the choice would be nice; so that those that do not wish the time to change can have it set not to, and those that would like the time to change automatically, can.
