Default Does OS change signal strength for 3G??

It seems to me that with .162 vs. .190 vs. 216 vs. 234 all seemed to change signal strength abit on the 3G network. Could this be or is this just a fluke? So far, in my house, I have had the best results with Rogers stock of .162.
