I have got my unlock code from vodafone with instructions but they don't make sense. See below.

1. Using the menu select the Settings Menu, then select SIM card. 2. Type 'mepd' (on the 7100v device, press the OP key twice to type P). 3. You should now see the five locking categories listed. 4. Type 'mep2' (hold shift or alt and the relevant key to type the number 2). 5. You are now prompted to enter the Network MEP Code (number of attempts left will be displayed). 6. Enter the Unlock Code. 7. Hit Return or Enter. 8. The device should then be unlocked

I have ID, Phone number and unknown number when I go into the sim card from settings.

Any ideas?

OK:

1. Go into Options > Advanced Options > SIM Card
2. You will see a screen saying "ID" / "Phone Number" etc
3. There is no menu option here, but trust Jadey: type mepd - you will not see anything (cursor, characters) until you type all four letters
4. A new set of options will appear on the screen
5. Type mep2, (so type mep then hold down Alt and press "e" to get a "2") - you will not see anything (cursor, characters) until you type all four characters
6. Enter the code that Vodafone gave you to unlock device
7. Press the enter button
The option on the screen for "Network" should now say "Disabled" and not "Active"
Exit the menu. Your Bold is unlocked.

If anything does not work, or works differently, let me know.

Unfortunately, the BOLD is not listed in the faq.

What are the benefits of unlocking the Bold besides being able to use the phone with a different provider other than AT&T?

None. The only point of an unlock is to be able to use a device on a different carrier from the one it is locked to.
