Warning: I'm a newbie to Blackberries. I got my first - an 8330 - last week but when I found it didn't have GPS or 3G I upgraded to a 9000 today. I think, after playing with the 8330 I was overconfident and it looks like I've screwed up the 9000!

I'm simply trying to put contacts in and give them personal ringtones. On the 8330 I got the option to do that whenever I saved a new record or amended it. I don't get that when I'm adding contacts on the 9000. Nor does it appear on the menu when I'm on a contact.

I should confess, earlier on this evening I connected the phone to my laptop and let it update its core services. I accidentally interrupted it. When I managed to get it to resume, instead of downloading just 6 modules, it proceeded to download and replace 292! I suspect, in the process, I may have deleted whatever it is that lets me add ringtones.

The ringtones themselves are there because I've been able to edit profile tones without a problem.

So, is my guess likely to be right? And, if so, what do I need to do to fix it? If not, what are the other options?

So on the Bold when you hit the Menu button while a contact is highlighted, you do not see "Add A Custom Ringtone"?

Given that you interupted an update, regardless of anything else, I would reinstall the OS ........ Just to make sure you have a clean install. After which all should be well.

Sorted. Reinstalled using Desktop manager. That put my "Help" back on the phone. The help told me how to add the ringtone. It is slightly different from the 8330. You don't get the option on save, you have to explicitly call the menu up while editing the contact...
