There have been soo many Beta releases since this, I cannot remember the reviews of this when it was leaked as a Beta... Will this have corrections to any issues that was on the beta of .221? I'm just trying to get a better understanding. Thx!
Do they still make encyclopedias?

Just upgraded from .216 to .221 (multilanguage) and everything works like a charm... I hope this would fix the rebooting issue once and for all

Any noticeable changes? I am still on .167 w/ AT&T and have been debating an upgrade for quite some time now.

I went from the .167 to this one and it made a huge difference in the speed of my media, I only had around 200 or so mp3s but it was dog slow on .167 and now it flies.
Battery life seems worse .... not sure if something else happened in the last week but that might have been due to the upgrade - I'm on the "edge" of 3G and Edge so my phone does nothing but switch all day so ...
Call setup seems more stable on these later builds for me, on .167 I got Call Failed all the freaking time.

I finally upgraded (from .162) after 5-6 failed attempts, I was running Desktop Manager before I deleted the vendor.xml file. :o
I haven't really played around with it to notice any difference.

Upgraded from .190 to .221 and am happy so far. I figured I'd have the Visual Voicemail icon on my AT&T Bold, but it's not there (looked everywhere).

Yes, anytime you upgrade the device, a BES reactivation is required; unless you upgrade using a PC that is on the same network as the BES server and the Desktop Manager was installed using the BES option.
|
I am on BES and when I upgraded to .216 I used loader.exe in accordance with the instructions above and had to get the IT guys to get me a new activation password. This afternoon I upgraded to .221 using desktop mamager on my office computer as recommended above and got reactivated - reinialized without a problem. Good advice above.

I have used this OS for several days [upgrade from 167] -> Several comments:
YES, you have to do new Enterprise activation if you are on BES
YES, reboot of the phone takes much LONGER time than 167
YES, it still has random drop connection issue on AT&T (during call)
I had the BB restart on me, while playing a mp3 audio file once.
Battery life - seems about the same. I say either buy AutoStandby program or put the phone on StandBy when not using it, set Backlight Brightness = 10, Timeout = 20 secs. to maximize battery life.
No major issue. I never had battery heat up issue on mine.
I'm satisfied with 221.
I just hate it that I have to re-activate BES and also re-configure my LaunchPad preset settings after OS upgrade.

My battery life seems better than with .190. Been using it fairly hard all day with Beejive and SocialScope running in the background and still have 4/5 bars of battery life. Normally would be down to 3/5 by now with this type of usage.

That "172" that appears on the top screen from time to time must be the Visual Voice mail error on AT&T. I'm on 221 with no issues. Hopefully, AT&T releases their own updated OS firmware that includes the service soon...
I had a Newton in 1994 and WAY too many PDA's and PDA Phones to remember since...

hmm .. perhaps you should try to removing the OS and reinstall from scratch. the heating up and short battery life issue could be due to some inproperly installed OS or program that went into a deadlock.

I must be missing something here, I downloaded the update, installed it to my PC, went to Common Files/Rim/etc deleted vendor.xml and ran Loader.exe but it just asks me what programs I'd like to add/remove and if I don't change any of them (there is nothing about Core files or anything in there) it just says there is nothing to do.
Am I missing a step here?
Blackberry is currently running 162.

Did you have .162 installed on the PC? and if so have you unistalled it?
It may be recognising that instead of the new one.

plug the BB in the PC, wait for it to be found etc. then serach for vendor.xml.
if you set up DM to automatically find updates or something similar, more than one vendor.xml file can be produced when plugging the BB in.
It could be theres another vendor file that isn't allowing you to update to the latest version.

One question please -
02-23-2009, 07:17 AM
I am going to buy BB bold, but I like to have Arabic on it ( as a maater of fact there are arabized sets and have Arbic letters on the QWERT KB) .
My questions is, if I upgrade an English set to the Multilanguage rom, would I have Arabic then?
If yes, would it include an Arabic SW Keyboard?

I upgraded to .221 yesterday. A bit too early for battery/signal/memory assessment, but one thing I did notice: the reboot time is now ~90 seconds.
I have run .134, .162, .167, .190, .216, .217 and for all of these OS versions, it took a good 4 to 5 minutes to boot up after a soft reset or battery pull.
This might not be a big deal for those that don't reboot often, but I do, daily. No, I don't have to reboot daily, but it keeps things fresh and avoids any issues IMO.

My experience also re reboot time. I have had most of the previou OS versions that you have had and this is by far the fastest at rebooting. Only 1/3 to 1/4 the time to reboot. A very significant change from .190, .216 etc.

I have experienced this before as well, and like some said before you will need to erase the apps and reload.

Don't do it from the Windows 7 beta - I had it lock up to and I kept trying until I screwed up my phone and had to revert to basics to recover the phone. Use Vista or XP.

I'm on 221 and reboot is 6 mins+ its CRaZY.
Battery life is also very bad. When I'm in weak reception area for a while something go wrong with my radio and I cannot send anything out nor can I make phone calls, and require a phone call.
When you are in a situation when you need to make a phone call and you have to wait 6 mins + or when call gets dropped and I have to reboot in order for me to make the next call; its very disappointing.
Its been about 8 days since I had this OS build and I was forced to reboot the phone due to radio dying issue exactly 4 times.
Anyone else experienced this?!

upgraded mine yesterday and encountered an incident just now when the mobile network failed to reconnect after signal was dropped when I was in an elevator. I did not noticed the failed reconnection till almost an hour later and it was reconnected after I manually disable and re-enable mobile network.
anyone else encountered this?

So I just upgraded and it's ok, except I think the CPU is being fairly heavily loaded. If I do something like play a game or go into gmail I notice my connection goes from 3G to EDGE. When I let it go back to idle it goes back to 3G after a while. I don't change my physical location the whole time. I'm on ATT. This isn't going to do, so I may go back an OS if I can.

Just replaced my Curve with a brand new Bold, load it with 4.6.0.373 OS, everything seem to be working.
Never encounter any problem from my OS upgrade for first Pearl, previous Curve and now the new Bold.
I fully utilized the two previous model and is now enjoying the new Bold.
Great to be a Blackberry addict.

221 and battery life -
02-26-2009, 08:59 AM
I have downgraded back to 216 after a week of battery issues. I would show half a battery and holster or put the phone down and a few minutes later the phone would be completely dead. There was no battery warning or life after "too low for radio use." At first I thought that I had left gps on or an application was hanging but after a dozen times it was clear that the battery drain was accelerating at the end. It was very strange.
I have been back on 216 for three days and back to my full day and a half battery life! Oh the joy of low expectations!!
 <- I miss my 8800!

Hey guys, I upgraded to .373 my unlocked bold 1 week ago. Works perfect, no glitches, once in a while the signal dropped but I believe it is my carrier that is switching to 3G technology. However I have noticed that when I make a call, a small rectangle with some diagonal stars showed up on the upper left side of the screen, looks like a dominoes piece. Keeps on during the call unless you toggle to speaker phone, when it disappeared. Any ideas of what is that?

yes, search for it, theres a thread about it. something about enhanced handset call audio
green button, menu, options, general options, at the bottom, then toggel to previous or normal. if boost bass or boost treble is the option, thats what the icon is about

Fatal Error Updating Software -
02-26-2009, 05:01 PM
I have downloaded the Blackberry 4.6.0.162 software, and started installing, but during the process, it suddenly aborts with a message:
"A fatal error has occurred while updating your device's software. Please try again"
No matter how many times I "try again", it fails at the same spot. Can anyone suggest what I can do to get my phone's software upgraded.
The installation was done using Blackberry 470_b050_english_nomediamanager.exe
