Hi

How can I use my BlackBerry Bold (on Vodafone UK) to get Internet connection for my laptop (ThinkPad T60 running Windows XP Pro - SP3)?

My Blackberry Bold (9000) can surf the net itself, but I can't see how to let my PC use the same connectivity...

- Any thoughts?

You mean tethering?

Do you mean using your BlackBerry Internet Service Data Plan?

You would need to contact your carrier and see if tethering is included in that plan.

soz what i mean is use your blackberry's BIS connection on the PC, not a tethering as it would use WAP data i believe.

Maybe I need sleep. I am confused by your question. Your BIS connection is a data plan provided to you by your carrier to allow you to get push email, and use the other blackberry features such as the Browser and BBMaps. What is it that you're trying to do, if it's not tethering.

I think you may have the terms confused. WAP is Wireless Access Protocol. It's basically a format web pages use for mobile browser to view the page.

oh my provider is Optus in Australia and they only offer DATA sent via the blackberry browser. Here is from my providers T&C:


Includes email traffic and Internet access through the BlackBerry Internet Browser and/or the BlackBerry Browser up to the specified limit. Use of any other services will be charged at the rates specified in the Optus standard agreement.

This is for the device browser.

so that would be all through the blackberry's BIS is that correct?

I dont get how the provider can filter out if you dont use the blackberry internet broswer :s

The carrier can determine how the data is used.

With Vodafone in Spain and my Treo I used PDAnet:

Basically using the Treo as a USB modem. Worked fantastic!

When I got the Blackberry and needed to do this I took out the chipcard, stuck it into my Treo and it worked just the same.

Now I've changed carrier so I've been wondering, too, whether there was soem similar tool for the Blackberry. Otherwise I'll have my Treo freed from Vodafone and use the same procedure (hopefully with success )

Check out tetherberry. I just got it and its a cool program it runs odd the bis server NOT your mobile carriers data network. There is a start up fee but, no monthly. I have been using it and I am wayching mu att data and it has not changed. It's a pin based system pretty cool i live in a area where I get 3 bars of 3g coverage and im getting 323 up and 1107 down on it. (checked it on speedtest.net)

look at teatherberry.com I like it and it saves me 40.00 a month tethering...

ok i no u have probably already answerd this but can i use my internet access from my blackberry curve on the acer aspire netbook? I no u can just idk if Ntelos has that feature.
